By Charles Brun: Matchroom Boxing guru Eddie Hearn rejects Tyson Fury’s retirement talk about him supposedly planning on hanging up his gloves after his April 23rd title defense against Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium in London, England.
Hearn says that if fans believe that WBC heavyweight champion Fury (31-0-1, 22 KOs) will be retiring, they’re “mad” because he’s NOT going to.
With Fury viewed as the #1 heavyweight on the planet, making HUGE money each time he fights, Anthony Joshua & Oleksandr Usyk still out there for him to battle, it’s impossible to believe what Tyson says about walking away from the sport.
Fury recently told the media at his kickoff press conference that he’s got $150 million in the bank and that he plans on purchasing a big yacht and retiring after he defends against his WBC mandatory Whyte (28-2, 19 KOs).
It’s questionable whether Fury has accumulated that much money yet in his career. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Fury’s fortune is estimated at $30 million, which is a lot of dough but far from the $150 million that he told the media that he’d socked away after 14 years in the professional ranks.
Heck, even Anthony Joshua hasn’t stowed away $150 million after nine years as a professional. According to Celebrity Net Worth, AJ’s net worth is estimated at a mere $80 million.
With the rapid downward slide that Joshua has been on since 2019, having lost 2 out of his last four fights, it’s unlikely he’ll get anywhere near the $150 million regions that Fury was blabbering about during the press conference.
“If you believe anything Tyson Fury says, you’re absolutely mad,” said Eddie Hearn to Fighthype when asked if what Fury says is true about him retiring after his April 23rd fight against Dillian Whyte.
Hearn is right about Fury likely not retiring after the fight with Whyte, particularly if he wipes the deck with him. You hate to say it, but the 34-year-old Whyte is essentially a slightly bigger version of Dereck Chisora, but with a weaker chin.

Yeah, Whyte is popular with British boxing fans, but only because they make a big fuss over their fighters, even if they’re at gatekeeper level like Chisora.
You can argue that if Whyte were from the U.S, he would be entirely ignored by the American boxing fans, as they would view him as a ham-and-egger type of heavyweight.
“Tyson Fury said the other day, ‘I cannot believe Dillian Whyte wouldn’t turn up for the press conference. I would never do that. It’s a disgrace.’ He never turned up for the [Wladimir] Klitschko press conference [in 2015],” Hearn continued.
“Do your research, look at your history; he didn’t turn up. He said his car broke down on the way. So don’t believe a word Tyson Fury says. He’s a great self-promoter, talks so much s***, and people believe it, which is genius.
“Of course, he does,” Hearn said when told that Whyte has a good chance of beating Fury. “Dillian Whyte is very tough; he can punch, he’s a great body puncher and has a fantastic left hook.
“If Tyson Fury switches off and wants to trade with Dillian Whyte, he will go to sleep,” said Hearn.
