By Jim Calfa: Rolando Romero reported that he’d been cleared of the allegations he’d been accused of the investigation is now closed.

The undefeated lightweight champion Rolando, who now refers to himself as ‘The Boxer Formally Known as Rolly’, is still upset at having to go through this arduous process.

Before these accusations surfaced, Romero, 25, was scheduled to challenge WBA ‘regular’ lightweight champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis in the main event on Showtime PPV on December 5th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

“rolliesss: After three and a half months of my name being slandered with false accusations, having to miss out on opportunities, cheated out of my dream, and out of a massive amount of wealth – The investigation into the allegations made against me has been formally closed. Charges were not filed because the allegations could not be substantiated because, as I always stated, I am innocent. I am now the symbol of freedom, purity, and love 💕 known as “The Boxer Formally Known as Rolly”. Now all you hating mf’ can suck my fat black 🐓

Romero was soon pulled from the card and replaced by Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz, who put in an impressive performance in a losing effort.

We’ll never know what Rolando would have done against Tank Davis (27-0, 24 KOs) that night. It would have been interesting to see.

Romero said he would have bought his mother a house with the money that he was going to get for the Tank fight.

It’s unclear how much money Rolando missed out on after being pulled from the card. In the main event on a PPV fighting, it had to have been a huge payday that Romero missed out on.

Now that Rolando has been cleared, we’ll see if Mayweather Promotions reschedules the fight with Tank Davis for the first quarter of 2022.

Rolando’s best chance for a big payday is for Mayweather Promotions to put him in with Gervonta, but it’s unclear whether that’s the best choice for him right now.

With Tank Davis’s poor performance against Pitbull Cruz, Mayweather Promotions might be thinking about setting up a rematch. Pitbull doesn’t have an opponent after the Ryan Garcia fight failed to materialize.

Rolando isn’t likely to be given a title shot against undisputed lightweight champion George Kambosos unless Mayweather Promotions throws some crazy money at the Australian fighter.

They probably won’t because they wouldn’t sell a fight between Kambosos and Rolando.

It’s not that Romero wouldn’t do his part to attract a lot of interest from the hardcore boxing fans in the U.S, but the casuals probably won’t get excited at seeing Rolando fighting the little-known Kambosos.

Other good options for Rolando Romero:

  • Michel Rivera
  • Jorge Linares
  • Richard Commey
  • Javier Fortuna
  • Isaac Cruz
  • Ricky Burns
