By Daniele D’Alessio: According to the Daily Mail, all British boxing is suspended in January which means that Chris Eubank Jr (31-2, 23 KOs) vs Liam Williams (23-3-1, 18 KOs) is likely to be rescheduled again.

The bitter rivals were meant to fight on the 29th of January 2022 at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff. But it looks certain that this bout will be delayed for a second consecutive time.

Originally, Eubank Jr and Williams were meant to clash on the 11th December 2020, yet The Welshman pulled out due to a shoulder injury.

After years of nasty exchanges on social media and a genuine 50-50 fight on paper, this contest was touted to be an absolute war.

Williams is coming off a unanimous decision loss against Demetrius Andrade (31-0, 19 KOs) whereas Eubank Jr was victorious in his last fight against Wanik Awdijan (28-2, 11 KOs).

At the age of 32, these delays are not favorable for the Next Gen boxer who arguably has still not got a world-class victory on his resume.

A win against The Machine could have set up a fight against the legendary Gennadiy Golovkin (41-1-1, 36 KOs) who he was close to scheduling a bout with several years ago.

Kell Brook (39-3, 27 KOs) famously moved up two weight divisions to battle Triple G and was brutally stopped in the 5th round.

As for Williams, a victory against Eubank Jr would have vastly improved his reputation and opened the door for lucrative fights against other top opponents.

With COVID cases rising in the UK, there is no guarantee this bout can be rescheduled for early Spring. However, if the situation gets better we could see this fight take place in May or June.

Due to Williams’ popularity in Wales, the contest will probably be held in Cardiff once again. As an all-British bout, fighting outside the UK may not elicit enough ticket sales.

After two cancellations in the row, boxing fans can only hope that this fight is worth the wait when the bitter rivalry finally concludes in 2022.
