Boxing Results: Nonito Donaire and Raymart Gaballo

By Ken Hissner: At the Dignity Health Sports Park, Carson, CA, Saturday, over Showtime, Sampson Lewkowicz (Sampson Boxing) and Tom Brown (TGB Promotions) in the Main Event presented WBC World Bantamweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire defending against WBC Interim World Bantamweight champion.

In the co-feature IBF No. 1 Welterweight Kudratillo “The Punisher” Abdukakhorov was defeated by Cody “The Crippler” Crowley, who came off the canvas to pull off the upset.

In the Main Event WBC World Bantamweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, 41-6 (27), #117.2, of PH and Las Vegas, NV, against WBC interim champion Raymart “Assassin” Gaballo, 24-0 (20), #117, of General Santos City, PH, 12 rounds.

In the co-feature, No. 1 IBF Welterweight Kudratillo “The Punisher” Abdukakhorov, 18-1 (10), #146.2, of UZB, was upset by southpaw Cody “The Crippler” Crowley, 20-0 (9), #145.4, of Peterborough, Ontario, CAN and Las Vegas, NV, over ten rounds.

In the first round, southpaw Crowley outworked Abdukakhorov with an effective jab and lead lefts on the chin as Abdukakhorov switched from orthodox to southpaw. In the second round, after a minute, Crowley hurt Abudkakhorov with a left on the chin. In the final minute, Abdukakhorov landed a counter left on the chin of Crowley, dropping him for an 8-count from referee Jerry Cantu.

In the third and fourth rounds, Crowley came back well to outland Abudkakhorov, for the most part, chasing him around the ring.

In the fifth round, blood started coming from the left ear of Abudkakhorov from a left along with an elbow. Crowley won the round pressing his opponent throughout the round, mostly landing jabs with lead rights on the chin. In the sixth round, the cut started bleeding again from the left ear of Abudkakhorov with rights from the southpaw Crowley.

In the seventh round, Crowley pinned the flat-footed Abudkakhorov in a corner, mostly with headshots with a minute left in the round. In the ninth round, Crowley continued chasing Abudkakhorov, occasionally landing lefts to the head when he stopped. In the tenth and final round, Crowley continued to win every round except for the knockdown round out landing Abudkakhorov.

Scores were 95-94, 97-92, and 98-91. This writer had it 98-91.

Opening bout Super Lightweight Brandun Lee, 24-0 (22), #140, of La Quinta, CA, stopped Juan Heraldez, 16-2-1 (10), #144, of North Las Vegas, NV, at 2:11 of the seventh round of a 10.

In the first five rounds, Lee used an effective jab with occasional following rights on the chin of Heraldez winning every round. In the seventh round, a left followed by a right on the chin of Heraldez and down he went down with referee Gerald White waving it off without a count.

Former WBO Bantamweight champion Marlon “Maranding Nightmare” Tapales, 35-3 (18), #121 ½, of Kapatagan, PH, stopped Hiroaki Teshigawara, 22-3-2 (15), 121 ½, of Tokyo, JAP, at 0:6 of the second of a 12.

In the first round, Tapales scored a pair of knockdowns over Teshigawara. In the second round, Tapales scored a knockout without a count.
