By Barry Holbrook: Dereck Chisora says he will bring “War” this Saturday night to entertain the fans for his rematch with Joseph Parker LIVE on DAZN at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England.
Chisora (32-11, 23 KOs) is being given a second chance by the former WBO heavyweight champion Parker (29-2, 21 KOs) after losing to him by a 12 round split decision last May.
Dereck feels he should have been given the win, but the judges noted how fatigued Chisora was and how Parker landed the better shots with his combination punching.
Chisora says Parker should have moved on
“I don’t think they wanted to give me the rematch. They were just talking from guys that were in the ring and then said straightaway, ‘I want a rematch,'” said Dereck Chisora to Matchroom Boxing on what Joseph Parker said after their fight last May.
“If I were him, I wouldn’t have taken the rematch. I’d have moved on,” said Chisora.
Parker was likely enticed by the idea of getting a nice payday in a fight that he felt confident of winning. Had Parker moved on, he would have been expected to take on a riskier opponent.
So even if the money were perhaps better for Parker against another opponent, it wouldn’t have been good for him to suffer a loss.
Dereck is in denial about his loss
“I was 100% sure I won the fight, but I don’t know,” said Chisora. “Different judges score it differently. I don’t know what they’re scoring it for now. Are we scoring for pressure fighter and making the fight happen? What are we scoring for?
“You can always tell a fight which ones want to fight. He might tell himself he wants to fight, but the truth is, he doesn’t want to be there. Even old school fights say, ‘Stay away from southpaws.’
“In this game, you have to fight whoever is in front of you. You’re going to see a little bit of shuffling like Muhammad Ali. I’m going to box,” said Chisora.
This writer had Chisora losing the fight with Parker because he gassed out early in the contest and looked a dreadful sight.
You can’t give fighters a win when they’re exhausted and moving around the ring throwing weak shots.
“14 years? I can’t get enough of it,” Chisora said when told he’s been a pro for 14 years. “You hear people say they’re retiring from boxing because they’ve had enough.
“They don’t want to train anymore, and the training becomes hard for them. When you talk to them, and they’re tiring, they say, ‘I can’t do it anymore.’ They’re not built like me.
“And when it’s time, and it’s done, my wife will tell me. When she tells me that, I’ll announce it. For me, I’m just enjoying it. I’m not chasing anything,” said Chisora.
Dereck is bringing WAR on Saturday
The last time Chisora fought Parker, he brought war, but his stamina failed him big time in the fight. Chisora seemed to have only trained hard enough to battle at a sustained pace for three rounds.
Once Chisora faded in the first quarter of the fight, Parker’s former WBO heavyweight champion allowed him to take over the contest and edge him on the scorecards.
“My ambition in the ring is to give the fans what they want. Give my paymasters what they want,” said Chisora. “They want to see war. It’s going to be like Dillian Whyte’s first fight in Manchester. That’s what I’m bringing,” said Chisora.
It’s a good idea for Chisora to take the fight to the 29-year-old Parker because his chances of winning a boxing match are slim. Parker has the better boxing skills and size.
Although Parker scores a lot of knockouts, his game is designed around outboxing his opponents.
“Joseph Parker is a rat. He needs to get ready. We know exactly what he’s going to do. He will try and ride the storm for six rounds and then come on after that.
“I’m chasing happiness of me training and fighting other fighters,” said Chisora. “I think every fight is important. The ones you lose and the ones you win.
“In life, they say, ‘If you lose this fight, you go. You know how long I’ve heard that. Ten times I’ve lost fights, and I’m always coming back with ideas,” said Chisora.
