By Chris Williams: Jermall Charlo was on hand for Friday’s heated Canelo Alvarez vs. Caleb Plant weigh-in at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The unbeaten WBC middleweight champion Charlo was wondering why IBF 168-lb champ Plant (21-0, 12 KOs) is getting a chance to fight the superstar Canelo (56-1-2, 38 KOs) but not him.

Jermall (32-0, 22 KOs) says he’s weighing over 168 pounds right now, and he’s ready to fight Canelo in Mexico at his house. He wants Canelo but he might not get him.

Canelo’s promoter Eddie Hearn was talking about wanting him to fight in England in his next fight against his WBA super middleweight mandatory John Ryder. If Hearn gets his way, Canelo will be taking another easy fight against Ryder next of risking a loss against Jermall.

Charlo wants Canelo fight

Why is it taking me so long to get this fight and Caleb Plant can get this fight? It is what it is,” said Jermall Charlo to Fighthype about him wanting to face Canelo. “We’d be bigger than this. I’d go to Mexico to fight Canelo at his house.

“We’d love to go to Mexico. We’d vacate to Mexico. We got a house in Mexico. I’m more than 168 right now. It’s going to become Tex-Mex. I’ll fight him round by round,” said Jermall of Canelo.

Plant is a HUGE underdog in this fight, and he’s going to have to bring some special for him to get the victory.

He’s not much of a puncher, which means his only chance of beating Canelo is by outboxing him. That’s going to be a tall order for Plant in trying to do that, but we’ll see if he’s got the talent to follow the Mayweather blueprint to beat Alvarez.

You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure out why Canelo hasn’t fought Charlo all these years. When you see Canelo fighting guys like Avni Yildirim, Rocky Fielding, Billy Joe Saunders, Callum Smith, and now Caleb Plant instead of Charlo, that tells you all you need to know.

Thankfully, the fight for Canelo on Saturday against Plant is the end of the line for him in his three-year journey to becoming the undisputed champion at 168. It’s finally about to be over, and then we’ll see if Canelo wants to start fighting dangerous opposition like Jermall.

Canelo to make Plant pay

“I don’t care. If he’s like that, he’s going to pay in the ring tomorrow,” said Canelo to Fighthype when asked about his thoughts on Plant not showing him respect in the build-up to Saturday’s fight.

Canelo will need a good pair of track shoes if he wants to make Plant pay tomorrow night because he’s expected to be on the run for the full 12 rounds.

“Caleb Plant, the demeanor that he’s bringing to the fight is different than any other fighter that Canelo has faced,” said Abner Mares to Fighthype.
