Jaime Munguia wants Golovkin or Derevyanchenko next

By Dan Ambrose: Jaime Munguia wants a title shot against IBF middleweight champion Gennadiy Golovkin or fight an eliminator next following his 12 round unanimous decision win over Gabriel Rosado (26-14-1, 15 KOs) last Saturday night at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Munguia isn’t ranked high with the IBF at #12, which puts him in a poor position to get a title shot again Golovkin (41-1-1, 36 KOs) unless he’s willing to give him the opportunity in a voluntary defense.

Golovkin has his sights set on a fight with Canelo Alvarez in early 2022, but if he doesn’t get that match, he might be willing to give Munguia a title shot.

There was no doubt that the 25-year-old Munguia had done enough to earn the decision at the end of the fight. The judges scored it 118-110, 119-109, and 117-111.

Munguia (38-0, 30 KOs) showed a lot of toughness outworking Rosado and taking a lot of hard punches from the former two-time world title challenger in their main event bout on DAZN.

Yes, we’re ready for Golovkin, but I want to fight with Derevyanchenko as well,” said Jaime Munguia. “A lot of experience for my career,” Munguia said when asked what he thought of his opponent Rosado.

If Munguia gets the fight with Golovkin, he’s got to make sure he doesn’t get hit a lot because he’s going to take a lot of punishment and potentially get stopped.

Rosado was hitting Munguia all night long with clean shots, and hurting him at times. Golovkin hits harder than Rosado, and he’s more technical and defensively sound.

It might be better for Munguia to get more experience under his belt before he takes on a fighter like Golovkin.

#2 WBC Sergiy ‘The Technician’ Derevyanchenko (13-3, 10 KOs) has lost three out of his last four fights since 2018, and he’s ranked below #1 WBC Munguia.

Derevyanchenko is fighting next month on December 5th against Carlos Adames (20-1, 16 KOs) in a risky 10 round fight on the undercard of Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis vs. Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz card on SHOWTIME PPV.

If Munguia can’t get a fight with Golovkin, facing Derevyanchenko will give him a chance to compare his performance to that of GGG, Daniel Jacobs, and Jermall Charlo. All three of those fighters have beaten Derevyanchenko, albeit controversially in the case of Golovkin and Jacobs.

“A lot of experience because he [Rosado] already fought against the best, GGG and Jacobs,” said Munguia. “I feel really good about my performance but I need to work really hard.

“Now, I want to go back to the gym, work on a few things and fight for a world title eliminator or a world championship at 160,” said Munguia.

Rosado felt that he did enough to win the fight, but the judges saw it differently. If this were a Canelo fight, the judges likely would have given him the win, but Rosado doesn’t have the same popularity obviously, so he wasn’t given the benefit of the doubt.

“I think I did all I could to win, the scorecards are bulls***. I won the fight,” said Rosado
