George Kambosos Jr: says he’ll fight Lomachenko after beating Teofimo Lopez

By Huck Allen: George Kambosos Jr. says he’s going to give Vasily Lomachenko the title shot that he’s looking for after he defeats IBF/WBA/WBC/WBO lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez in their fight next month on October 4th at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Kambosos is a class act with him already making it clear that he will give Lomachenko a title shot after he beats Teofimo.

The Teofimo vs. Kambosos Jr. fight card will be shown on pay-per-view on FITE.TV and iNDemand for $49.99.

Like many people, Kambosos Jr. (19-0, 10 KOs) thinks Teofimo is running scared of Lomachenko after beating him when he was injured last October. Now that Lomachenko is 100% healthy, Teofimo (16-0, 12 KOs) wants no part in fighting him again.

The Australian Kambosos Jr. ISN’T afraid of Lomachenko, and he’ll make sure the former three-division world champion gets a crack at his three titles after he rips them away from Teofimo next month.

Teofimo was supposed to have given Kambosos his IBF-mandated title shot on June 19th, but Teo supposedly came down with COVID-19, forcing the fight to be postponed. Now it’s scheduled for October 4th, and we can only hope it takes place on that date.

It’s admirable that Kambosos, 28, is already putting it out there that he wants to give Lomachenko a title shot because Teofimo has stiffed him and wants no part of him.

Teofimo’s justification for not giving Lomachenko a rematch is that he believes that if the shoe was on the other foot and Loma had won their fight last year, he wouldn’t give him a rematch.

It’s a poor excuse not to give Lomachenko a rematch, but Teofimo may lack the self-confidence needed to agree to it. But if Kambosos beats Teofimo, all of this would be meaningless.

“I’m just happy that the date is set, and we’re going to get it on,” said Kambosos to Fighthype on his October 4th fight against Teofimo. “I’m going to beat this undisputed kid [Teofimo] and take his belts, and what a better story.

“I’m just so focused with tunnel-vision,” said Kambosos. “This is my moment. My time has come, and I’m ready to fight. I don’t have any problem with whatever size that Lopez thinks he has. I don’t have any issues.

“He doesn’t want to fight Lomachenko,” said Kambosos. “Everybody saw what happened in that fight. He knows himself that Lomachenko was not himself.

“He knows he [Lomachenko] came in there with one arm. The thing is, Andre Ward had the fight a draw against a guy with one arm. That just tells you what’s going on there,” said Kambosos.

Interestingly, it did appear that Lomachenko had done enough to deserve a 12 round draw against Teofimo. Lomachenko completely took over the fight at the mid-stage and fought well enough to deserve to win five of the last six rounds.

“There’s a lot of talk that Lomachenko wants that fight, but guess what, Loma? I’ll give you the shot. When I get these belts, I’ll fight the best of the best,” said Kambosos.

“I don’t care about protecting records and all the bull s*** that comes with it and politics.

“I’ll fight you next,” said Kambosos about his intentions to give Lomachenko a title shot. “You want a shot at these belts because I’m going to win these belts. I’ll give you the shot, but you’ve got to come see me in Australia or in Greece.

“People see me preparing and see how hungry I am. They’re not dumb. They can see the kid [Teofimo] is not focused. He’s distracted like crazy, and he’s missing sessions left, right, and center. Two weeks ago, he was partying and drinking, celebrating,” said Kambosos.
