By Sean Jones: Canelo Alvarez says no fighter can get into his head to upset him because his mind is “too strong” at this point in his career.
It sure did appear that IBF super middleweight champion Caleb Plant got into Canelo’s mind and made him angry enough to start a brawl last week at the kickoff press conference in Los Angeles, California.
Plant and IBF/WBC/WBO 168-lb champion Canelo (56-1-2, 38 KOs( will be meeting for the undisputed super middleweight championship at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
While Canelo rejects the notion that Plant got him upset, it looked like he did when he called him a “drug cheat’ during their press conference.
Interestingly, Canelo maintains he got upset when Plant (21-0, 12 KOs) called him a “mother f****,” but then again, Alvarez was caught using the same expletive on video.
Canelo says he has a strong mind
“Nobody can do it,” said Canelo to Fighthub when asked if anyone could penetrate his psyche to bother him mentally. “I have a strong mind. Nobody can do it. They try.
“I don’t know,” said Canelo when asked if Plant was trying to get him upset at their press conference last week. “And I have fought against every style.
“I have the experience and the skills to deal with all the styles now. This is nothing new to me. Taller fighters, strong fighters. I’ve fought with everybody.
“He’s a good boxer and has a good jab,” said Canelo when asked what bothers him about Plant’s fighting style. “To stay at the top is really hard. You need to be disciplined and smart, and obviously, you need to have the talent to stay.
“No, because I like boxing. This is what I do; this is what I love being in the gym. So for me, it’s not hard to wake up and go to the gym because I love boxing,” said Canelo.
It seems like Canelo isn’t ready to face the truth about him getting upset at some of the labels that Plant blasted him with during their press conference.
Canelo may not want to admit that Plant got into his head with the “drug cheat” label he plastered him with; it sure did seem like he messed him up mentally. Canelo was upset enough to attack Plant.
If Canelo goes after Plant in their next press conference, it would be evident to everyone that Caleb is playing him like a violin.

“I just see this fight coming up and then we’ll see. After this fight, I don’t know,” Canelo said when asked what his next fight will be. Now, my goal is to beat Caleb Plant.
“I talked with him the other day on the phone. He’s happy to work with me and I’m happy,” said Canelo about talking to Al Haymon the other day.
“I like this relationship because I can do the fights the fans want. I’m good with everybody and have relations with everybody. That’s the best thing in life.
“When you negotiate something, you’ve got to do the right things for you. I just try to bring the best things for me. I’m at the point where I can do anything.
“We don’t know yet,” said Canelo when asked who comes after Plant. “We’re just thinking about this fight, but after this, we want to fight the best out there.
“I always bring my best, and sometimes my opponents bring some good things. I’m going to bring my best, and you will see.
“We always do different things in my fights because the opponent is different. So I do different things,” said Canelo.
Plant has an identical style as Floyd Mayweather Jr, and we always saw what he did to Canelo in 2013. If Plant can dominate Canelo the way Floyd did, he’s got a chance to at least get a draw if not a victory.
We saw Gennadiy Golovkin beat Canelo in their first fight in 2017 and get a 12 round draw.
For Plant to actually get the W, he’ll probably need to dominate Canelo more than Mayweather Jr. did because he doesn’t have the same popularity.
