Devin Haney and Luke Campbell exchange words on Twitter

By Charles Brun: Luke Campbell and Devin Haney went at it today on social media following a remark made. The two-time lightweight world title challenger

Campbell (20-4, 16 KOs) said the shot that he dropped Ryan Garcia with in the second round of their fight last January would have knocked Haney out.

Luke also said that the 35-year-old Linares was three years past his best by the time Haney fought him last Saturday night.

Additionally, the former three-division world champion Linares (47-6, 29 KOs) was coming off a year and a half layoff since his last fight in February 2020.

Haney fired back at Campbell, reminding him that he’s never come out victorious when taking big challenges in his career. When Campbell stepped it up, he was found out, losing to these fighters:

  • Ryan Garcia
  • Yvon Mendy
  • Vasily Lomachenko
  • Jorge Linares

The version of Linares that Campbell lost a 12 round split decision to in September 2017  was a younger and arguably better one than the 35-year-old version Haney fought last weekend.

Haney & Campbell trade trash talk

Luke Campbell: “Congrats on your win lad, but FYI, the shot I dropped Ryan [Garcia] with would have slept you, and [Jose] Linares is now 3 years past his best 🥴.”

Devin Haney: “Calm down Luke the fluke, you’ve never won a big fight in your life. Tell me one person that you beat?

“I respect Luke as being a warrior in the ring I would never take that away from him… but at the end of the day in any of his big fights he’s never pulled off the victory,” said Devin Haney on Twitter.

Luke Campbell: “Have had some big fights and winning the Olympics was a decent buzz, nothing like that feeling when a new email hits the inbox, though, eh? 😆 Enjoy the victory champ.”

Devin Haney: “God bless.”

Well, with the way Haney and Campbell are going at it, this might not be a bad fight to make next if Devin is unsuccessful in negotiating a fight with IBF/WBA/WBC Franchise/WBO lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez.

Matchroom Boxing likely won’t set up a fight between Haney and Ryan Garcia or Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. Haney obviously wants to fight Teofimo next, but that’s an unpredictable guy, and so is the promotional company he fights for.

Haney’s options for his next fight:

  • Luke Campbell
  • Teofimo Lopez
  • Javier Fortuna vs. Joseph Diaz Jr winner
  • Vasily Lomachenko vs. Masayoshi Nakatani winner
