Kambosos: Teofimo’ Lopez is a dead boy once it goes past 3 rounds
By Sean Jones: George Kambosos Jr says he’s going to expose Teofimo Lopez and embarrass him on June 5th in their fight on Triller pay-per-view in Miami, Florida. Kambosos Jr (19-0, 10 KOs) says Teofimo (16-0, 12 KOs) is a class-less, three-round fighter, who will be a “dead boy” after the third round.
The Australian noticed how Teofimo gassed out after six rounds in his recent fight against former IBF/WBA/WBO lightweight champion Vasily Lomachenko last October, and the only reason he won that fight is that the Ukrainian was injured.
When Lomachenko started letting his hands go in the seventh, Teofimo began crumbling. That might help explain why Teofimo, 23, has shown zero interest in fighting Lomachenko again because he knows he’s had shoulder surgery.
In their recent press conference, Teofimo looked like he came unglued when Kambosos Jr started trashing him about being a weight bully. Teo tore his shirt off like he was going to do something but then backed away after Kambosos stood his ground in the center of the stage.
Kamboso: I’m going to take his head off
“As I said, I’m coming to take this kid’s head off,” George Kambosos Jr said to Fighthype about his plans for his June 5th fight against Teofimo Lopez. “No, that’s just me.
“I don’t script anything,” Kambosos said when asked if he intentionally tried to ruffle some featherweights with Teofimo at their recent press conference. “This kid has all I want.
“He’s got the belts, and I’m coming to get the belts. This isn’t scripted, this is me. This is war. When we were at the press conference, that was just the warrior mentality that everyone saw,” Kambosos Jr said.
If Kambosos is going to attempt to take Teofimo’s head off, he would be wise to wait until the seventh or eighth rounds before he tried.
Teofimo is capable of fighting hard through the sixth round, as long as he’s not being pushed at a fast pace. Lomachenko was fighting at an ultra-slow pace in the first six rounds, and Teofimo gassed out.
If Kambosos want Teo to tire faster, he’s going to need a good chin to take the big shots that he’s going to be hitting him with. The Australian needs to realize that he’s not getting hit by a lightweight.
He’ll be getting hit by a light welterweight when he goes up against Teofimo, and he may not be able to handle his power.
Teofimo is a three-round fighter
“It’s a real fight,” said Kambosos about his fight with Lopez. “I triggered him really fast. It’s mental warfare, and I’m the best when it comes to that. Not only am I an elite fighter, but mentally, I destroy guys.
“I’m living rent-free in the kid’s head. The kid took his shirt off at the press conference because I got under his skin straightaway. That just shows his immaturity.
“He’s going to be freaking out. He’s never had to deal with anyone like this before. Everyone has been scared of him. F*** him, I ain’t scared of him. When he came straight at me, I didn’t take a step back.
I stayed in position, and I was in the fighting position ready to go. I pushed him with my shoulder, and he moved back two or three steps. If you’re the undisputed champion of the world, you should be pushing me around, not the other way around.
“Like I said, this is war, he’s got what I want. He’s got all the belts. I’m coming to take everything off him. Lopez better hope it’s over in three rounds because that’s all they go.
“They’re really three-round fighters. They better hope it’s three rounds. Once it goes past three rounds, he’s [Teofimo] a dead boy,” said Kambosos.
In Kambosos’ fights against Mickey Bey and Lee Selby, he’d didn’t look impressive. Selby, who isn’t a puncher, appeared to hurt Kambosos a couple of times in their fight last October. Kambosos barely won that fight by a 12 round split decision.
If Kambosos is having problems dealing with the light shots from Selby, how can he hope to take the punches from the light welterweight-sized Teofimo?
Kambosos: The Kid is losing his mind
I’m here as a lone soldier, and I’m turning that press conference into mine,” Kambosos said. “I’m making that kid go crazy, and obviously, his dad had to make a little remark.
“I put him in his place as well. He ain’t going to do nothing. I told him he’s going to be an embarrassment and a joke, and he went quiet real quick as well.
“He’s a boy, you can see the way he dresses,” said Kambosos about Teofimo. “He has no class, he’s a fraud. When he comes to this fight, I’m going to expose him. I’m up 5 nil, I’ve made this kid lose his mind. He’s losing it,” said Kambosos.
It’s not that Teofimo isn’t a good fighter, but he’s clearly outgrown the lightweight division. That’s why we’re seeing him gas out when his fights go past the sixth round.
Teofimo was lucky that Lomachenko had a shoulder injury last year because he might have lost if he’d been healthy. In Teoifmo’s fight against Masayoshi Nakatani in 2019, he ran out of gas in the second half of that match.
The judges scored the fight overwhelmingly in Teofimo’s favor in giving him a wide 12 round decision, but the fight looked like a draw in the eyes of many boxing fans.
You got to give Teofimo credit for being able to make the 135-lb division in his fights since 2019 because he should have moved up to 140 a long time ago.
Teofimo has chosen to stay at 135, seeing that he wouldn’t enjoy a huge size advantage over his opponents if he moved up to 140. Hence, that’s why many fans view Teofimo as a weight bully. He doesn’t want to fight at 140 against guys his own size.
It was uncomfortable to watch how Teofimo was stressing out during the press conference with Kambosos.
Hopefully, Teo gets control over his mind for the remaining press conferences because he might be a nervous wreck by the time he meets up with Kambosos on June 5th.
