‘The Pride of Wales’ Joe Calzaghe is the featured boxer in this edition of the Top 5 Notable Wins series.

Joe Calzaghe was one of the greatest boxers in the rich history of boxing, and he is viewed by many as the greatest super middleweight of all time. Calzaghe made his professional debut on October 1, 1993. Just over 4 years later, Calzaghe won the WBO super middleweight world championship.

Calzaghe would ultimately win a unification bout to also claim the IBF super middleweight championship, and he would win yet another unification bout to add the WBA and WBC belts to his collection (although by that point he had been stripped of the IBF belt). In total, Calzaghe made 21 consecutive successful title defenses at super middleweight. Later in his career Calzaghe also won the Ring Magazine light heavyweight championship.

Calzaghe officially retired in early 2009, having accumulated a perfect undefeated record of 46-0 with 32 wins coming by way of knockout, including 22 victories in sanctioned title bouts. Calzaghe was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2014. He was the longest reigning super middleweight champion of all time, and he was also considered one of the best pound for pound boxers in the world during the last few years competing as a professional where he left the sport on a high note.
