Hearn talks Jermall Charlo vs. Demetrius Andrade

By Jim Maltzman: Eddie Hearn is frustrated with his lack of success to make a unification fight between his fighter WBO middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade and WBC champ Jermall Charlo.

Hearn said when he attempted to reach out to Premier Boxing Champions to put the Charlo vs. Andrade fight together, he received no reply. He doesn’t blame them for not wanting to make the fight because he believes that Andrade (29-0, 18 KOs) would beat Charlo (31-0, 22 KOs).

Jermall not ready for a fight with Andrade

With the problems Charlo recently had in beating Sergiy Derevyanchenko last month on September 26, he’s not ready for Andrade.

Andrade will be experimenting next month when he moves up to 168 to take on unbeaten Dusty Hernandez-Harrison (34-0-1, 20 KOs) on November 27th on DAZN. The fight will be taking place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

Andrade may move up to super middleweight in 2021 to go after WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders or Callum Smith.

“I’ve lost count of the number of fights we’ve offered to people that we can’t do,” said Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn to Chris Mannix on DAZN about his problems trying to get fights for Demetrius Andrade.

“Just the other day, I reached out to Luis Decubas and PBC and said, ‘Luis, let’s do the [Jermall] Charlo fight [against Andrade]. We could do it on FOX. It doesn’t matter. And it won’t even be that expensive for you.

“It might even be the same amount of money that you paid [Sergiy] Derevyanchenko. This is a great fight.’ Not even a reply. It’s not Luis’ fault, but who would want to fight Demetrius Andrade. He’s really, really good. He’s probably beat Charlo,” said Hearn.

Charlo and Premier Boxing Champions have had years to make the Andrade fight, and they’ve not done it. Jermall has been a pro for over a decade now, and you have to believe that if he wanted to fight Andrade, he would have done so by now.

Jermall will likely face Chris Eubank Jr next when he returns to the ring in 2021. He’d like to fight Gennady Golovkin or Canelo Alvarez, but those guys aren’t going to fight him.

Since the management for Jermall hasn’t taken Hearn up on his offer to make the Andrade fight, they should have him move up to 168 and take on David Benavidez, Edgar Berlanga, or Caleb Plant.
