Gervonta Davis: ‘Ryan Garcia gotta better chance of beating coronavirus than beating me’

By Chris Williams: Gervonta Davis put ‘Lil” Ryan Garcia in his place on Monday evening in letting him know that he has a better shot at beating COVID 19 than he does at defeating him when the two of them eventually meet up.

The upstart Garcia (20-0, 17 KOs) hounded Tank Davis (23-0, 22 KOs) periodically during the day on Monday, talking about wanting to fight him.

Davis tried to get Ryan to see the big picture by letting him know to chill because they’re going to fight eventually, but that didn’t clam him up. Ryan continued to push for the fight.

Ryan Garcia has a better chance of beating COVID 19

“You gotta better chance at beating the Coronavirus than beating me..but whatever, Christopher Reeve!” said @Gervontaa.

Ryan is young enough to beat coronavirus. You can’t deny that. But as far as experience goes, Ryan Garcia hasn’t fought anyone with the type of punching power Tank Davis possesses.

It would be good for Golden Boy Promotions to put Ryan in with two big punchers to get him ready for Tank Davis before they make that fight because he doesn’t possess the experience to be ready for him.

Ryan should fight these guys to get ready for Tank Davis:

  • Jorge Linares
  • Richard Commey
  • Teofimo Lopez
  • Yuriorkis Gamboa

It would smart for Garcia to get his feet wet fighting some or all of those four fighters BEFORE he looks to face a huge puncher like Tank Davis. If nothing else, Garcia would make the right with Tank a lot bigger if he showed that he could beat those guys.

Tank Davis wants to do the right thing by letting the fight with Ryan gain momentum by both of them fighting other opponents for the time being. As long as Ryan keeps winning, the two of them can fight in the future and make a lot of money. If they fight right now, it won’t be anywhere near the match that it would be later on. Floyd Mayweather Jr. showed how to let a fight marinate when he weighed six years before facing Manny Pacquiao.

Ryan Garcia: I want my title shot

“I know you aren’t calling anyone little man. I want my shot at your fake a– title, I want to prove to the world I’m the real champ,” said @KingRyanG.

Ryan is a little unclear on the subject of titles. Tank Davis has got the REAL world title in holding down the WBA World lightweight title. Garcia holds the WBC Silver lightweight title. Tank’s best is a genuine world title. The Silver belt that Ryan has is arguably a lower level trinket title that is easy to win, and they don’t mean as much.

Ryan still isn’t ranked #1 in the World Boxing Association’s rankings. Robert Easter Jr. has the #1 spot. If Ryan wants to get the #1 ranking, he should fight Easter Jr. and show that he can beat him. There’s a lot of guys that Ryan should be fighting before he starts calling out Tank Davis for a world title shot.
