Mayweather: ‘For Conor McGregor fight, I didn’t really train’

By Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Jr. says he didn’t really train hard for his August 2017 fight against UFC star Conor McGregor. Mayweather states that if he had wanted to, he could jumped on McGregor and stopped him right away. But if he did that, then there wouldn’t be a possibility of a second fight between them.

Manny Pacquiao is also interested in fighting McGregor in 2020. If Pacquiao fights him first, he’ll arguably ruin it for Mayweather by knocking Conor out with ease. The fans aren’t going to want to see McGregor fight Mayweather in 2020 after he’s already been knocked out by Pacquiao. That would be wretched.

Mayweather says he’s no longer fighting boxers because he’s proven himself already, which is obvious at this point. Manny Pacquiao has been trying to get a rematch with Mayweather, but he’s not interested in facing him again.

It would make Floyd a lot of money in a second fight with Pacquiao, because he would likely be the underdog. Fans would want to see the fight just so that they can watch Mayweather suffer his first career loss.

Mayweather admits to not training for McGregor fight

“For the Conor McGregor fight I didn’t really train. If I wanted to go out there and f— him up and blaze him right out the gate, I could’ve,” said Mayweather to
REVOLT TV. “But my thing is this, if I would’ve, then it wouldn’t be probably a part two.”

With Mayweather having been out of the ring for 3 years, the interest from fans likely won’t be anywhere near what it was the first time he fought McGregor three years ago. For all intents and purposes, Mayweather has been forgotten by boxing fans. He’s now just seen as a guy that hustles fights with MMA guys with no boxing skills. It’s not interesting for a lot of fans.

Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) could be facing each other in a rematch in 2020. Nothing has been signed on the fight, but there’s a chance the two face each other again. Floyd stopped McGregor in the 10th round in a boxing match on August 26, 2017 in Las Vegas.

That was the last time that Mayweather fought in a professional boxing match. The fight was sanctioned as a professional match by the Nevada Commission, even though it was McGregor’s pro debut.  14,623 fans flocked to see the fight live at the T-Mobile Arena.

McGregor was exhausted by the 9th, and took a lot of punishment from Mayweather, who looked like he was still in 1st gear. He was fighting in slow manner, and nothing like the normal way that he would attack his opponents.

Floyd says he doesn’t fight boxers any longer

“You’ve gotta realise, I don’t fight boxers,” said Mayweather.”I already proved to the world I’m the best at that.  I don’t know why people keep saying this – Mayweather vs Pacquiao [rematch]? It finally happened, he got cooked, now he begging for a rematch.”

It’s totally understandable why Floyd doesn’t want to fight boxers anymore, because the only ones boxing fans want to see him in against would probably destroy him. The fans want to see Mayweather fight Terence Crawford, Pacquiao, Errol Spence Jr., Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin. Those are all guys that would be a nightmare for Mayweather.
