Confident and prepared, the WBO Latino champion at 115 pounds, Jeyvier Cintrón, will fly tomorrow to Panama, where he will defend his belt for the first time against the local Ricardo “El Matemático” Núñez as part of the program to be held at the Vasco Núñez de Balboa Convention Center (Hotel El Panamá) in Panama City, in WBO Convention.
“We are already putting the finishing touches (in training), thank God the weight has not given us problems, in the last fight we made it super comfortable, now it is to be expected the same, that we make the weight comfortable and putting the finishing touches to October 31,” Cintron said after training with former world monarch Ivan” Iron Boy “Calderón at the Félix Pagán Pintor Gym. “We have had more sparring, we have taken a plan perfectly, I feel good, in condition, we are going to give everything, it’s in Panama against a Panamanian, but I’m willing to go dancing in his house.”
Cintron (8-0, 4 kos), the only Puerto Rican boxer to fight in two Olympic Games (2012 and 2016), will face Núñez (29-8, 23 kos), an experienced fighter with two world fights in his record, against Moruti Mthalane and Juan Carlos Reveco.
“He’s (Núñez) more experienced than I. He has 28 fights, of which 23 have been by KO. He has fought with Carlos Cuadras, Mexican veteran. He has fought for the world title. He is a very experienced fighter, but I am going to show that with only eight fights, I have the caliber to be world champion,” Cintron added.
Ranked #9 by the WBO at 115 pounds, Cintron comes from becoming the WBO Latino champion at 115 pounds on September 1st when he defeated the Mexican Francisco Alonso Meléndez by a wide unanimous decision. The Top Rank fighter also holds the WBO Youth world belt at 118 pounds.
“We are already ranked number 9. This has been a great achievement for me, with only eight fights I am already ranked number nine in the world, I want to continue climbing in the rankings to be given that opportunity for the world title. I know that I deserve it, since I was a child I have worked to become a world champion, everybody tells me that I am going to do it, it’s up to me to do the job and fulfill that great dream, I know I deserve this position,” said Cintrón. “Currently the title (WBO 115 belt) is vacant, we will see who they give the opportunity to, if they give it to me, I would be willing to fight when it is, we are ready for when we have that opportunity, to win it. Give us that opportunity, win that fight.”
Several WBO regional belt fights complete the program presented by PRBBP and G & V Entertainment this Wednesday.
In one of them, the Costa Rican Francisco Fonseca (22-1-1, 16 kos) defends his WBO Latino belt in 130 pounds against the Dominican Yohan Vásquez (21-2, 18 kos) to 10 rounds. Yenifel Vicente (33-3-2, 25 kos) will defend his WBO Latino title at 122 pounds against Mexican Víctor Proa (29-5-2, 22 kos). For the vacant WBO Latin title in 108 pounds, the Argentinean Agustín Mauro Gauto (9-0, 5 kos) will face the Nicaraguan Carlos Buitrago (30-4-1, 17 kos).
Meanwhile, for the vacant WBO world Youth title at 126 pounds, Puerto Rican Jean Carlos Rivera (15-0, 10 kos) will fight against the American Jason Sanchez (12-0, 6 kos) to eight rounds.
