By Mike Smith: Mayweather Promotions hasn’t been keeping Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis busy enough to keep him happy, and he’s now Tweeting about it on his social media site by saying, “Free Tank.”

The 23-year-old unbeaten Davis (23-0, 19 KOs) hasn’t fought since last year when he defeated WBA Super World super featherweight champion Jesus Cuellar by a 3rd round knockout in his only fight in 2018.

There was talk of Gervonta possibly facing former three division world champion Abner Mares on the undercard of Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury on December 1, but it doesn’t look like that fight is going to happen.

Matchroom Boxing USA promoter Eddie Hearn says he approached Mayweather Promotions about signing Gervonta Davis to a co-promotional deal so that he could keep him busy fighting on his DAZN cards.

“I just follow Gervonta Davis on social media about how he’s always unhappy, and I made an offer to Mayweather Promotions a couple of months ago, and this week I made a huge offer to Mayweather to work together. I’m not looking to interfere with the contract, but he’s clearly unhappy. He’s made it very public, and I’m giving them the opportunity to get him out when he wants to get out for more money than he’s ever seen in his life. So, they just come back and said, ‘We’ve got other plans for Gervonta.’ Fair enough, the conversation ends there. But we’ve got Tevin Farmer, and we want to make that fight with Gervonta Davis. We won’t be teaming up with Mayweather Promotions after that pitch. I think it’s bad for the career of Gervonta Davis when we had such a great opportunity for him,” Hearn said.

It’s unclear what Mayweather Promotions has for Gervonta, as he doesn’t have a fight scheduled and it appears that he’s going to be out of the ring for the remainder of 2018. That means that Gervonta will have fought only once in 2018, which is a waste of time. Geronta’s contract with Mayweather Promotions will end sooner or later, and when that happens, there’s going to be a free for all between the different promoters to try and sign him. At this point, it might take a miracle for Mayweather Promotions to keep Gervonta when his contract with them expires.

”Eddie Hearn, I heard you made a bigger offer this week bruh. So you want me to fight,” Gervonta said on Twitter.

As you can see, Gervonta does not sound like a happy camper. It’s hard work to be a promoter, and you wonder whether Mayweather is cut out to promote the bigger talents in which he has to reach out with different promoters on the other side of the fence.
