By Scott Gilfoid: Tyson Fury is talking about resuming his boxing career in 2 months from now on the undercard of the Billy Joe Saunders vs. Avtandil Khurtsidze card in London, England on July 8. The 29-year-old Fury revealed the news on his Twitter account. Fury taking the shotgun approach to his comeback by spitting out different comeback dates left and right, none of which Gilfoid believes. Fury is still very heavy. Last month, he said he was weighing 350 pounds. I wouldn’t be surprise if he hasn’t lost any of that weight.

He hasn’t fought in 2 years since his very close 12 round decision win over Wladimir Klitschko. Fury still doesn’t have a boxing license to fight, so that’s obviously going to be something that he’ll need to take care of before he can resume his career. Fury recently said he would be returning to the ring on May 13.

Here’s what Fury said last March about his comeback:

“Breaking news. Return to the MAC, May 13th, working on an opponent more news to follow,” said Fury on his Twitter. “Keep my melts warm, guys, as they belong to the king.”

As you can see, Fury seems to be all over the place in blabbering about this or that when it comes to his comeback to the sport.

“Gypsy King reporting into the World. I can confirm that I will be accompanying the one and only Billy Joe Saunders when he fights ‘Danny De Vito’,” Fury said on his social media Instagram site. “I’m coming back. Going over to Marbella [to train]. We are going to Marbella and I’m coming back to take on all bums. Bum of the month campaign, what you say Frank? So many bums out there that need cleaning up and wiping out.”

Fury is talking about wanting to win all the heavyweight world titles again. That’s a big ask for him. A more realistic goal for Fury would be to win the trinket heavyweight titles that few boxing fans have ever heard of, but definitely not the world titles. If Fury goes make a real effort to win a world title in his comeback, I can see him failing miserably. He was lucky to win the belts the last time. Fury would have lost to Wladimir if the Ukrainian had thrown some punches. The fight was there to be won by Wladimir in the second half of the bout if he had let his hands go instead of following Fury around the ring. Fury won’t get lucky like that again if he fights for a world title. If he faces Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder, Joseph Parker or even Wladimir, I see him getting knocked out.

I’ll believe that Fury is coming back when I see it. Even if Fury schedules a fight, I would be very skeptical that he’ll make it into the ring for the actual fight. I can see Fury pulling out of the match with some kind of ache or pain, be it a back or leg problem. I don’t think Fury has the love for boxing like he used to at one time. He reached the pinnacle of his career by beating Wladimir in 2015, and I believe that victory took away his ambition to compete.

It will be interesting though to see if Fury does continue his boxing career. If he does, I cannot see him burning off all the fat that he’s carrying around by July 8. That’s just too much weight to take off in 2 months. I’m trying to imagine burning off 100 pounds in just 8 weeks and I can’t see it. That’s 12.5 pounds per week that Fury would need to lose for him to get down to his old fighting weight of 250 lbs.

Fury would need to lose almost 2 lbs. of fat per day for him to get to 250. Can a person do that? I don’t think it’s scientifically possible for someone to lose that much fat per day in my opinion. As such, if Fury does fight on July 8, I imagine he’s going to be quite heavy. It probably won’t matter how fat Fury is though, because he’s obviously not going to be fighting a quality heavyweight.

With Fury having been out of the ring for 2 years, he’s not going to face a live body at this point. It would be too risky for Fury to fight anyone with a pulse. Fury never had any pop in his punches to begin with even when he was in tip top shape. If Fury comes into the ring weighing over 300lbs for his comeback, he’s going to be slow as heck, and will be laboring after 2 or 3 rounds. It would be impossible for Fury to beat someone good if he waddles into the ring over 300lbs. He’s going to need more time to take all of the weight off, and it definitely will take more than 2 months to get all that fat off. I’d say at least 4 months of hard training will be required for Fury to get back to his old fighting weight. Yeah, Fury can do a rush job of taking the weight off by using the old caloric restriction method, but that’ll cause him to be weak and too thin for him to beat anyone good.
