By Eric Baldwin: Former four division world champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (32-2, 24 KOs) has been sent to jail for 30 days for contempt of court failed failing to show up on time for a trail last Tuesday in Hamilton County in Cincinnati, Ohio. When the 26-year-old Broner failed to show up on time for the trail, an arrest warrant was issued.

When Broner did show up three hours late for his trial, the judge charged him for contempt of court and gave him 30 days. This bad news for Broner’s boxing career because it’s going to keep him out of action for a little while.

Fortunately for Broner, he’s going to be in for one month. He’s still young enough to get in shape quickly when he eventually gets a fight scheduled. Broner was in the running for a match against former eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao on November 5. However, Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum said that Broner asked for more money than he was willing to pay him. There are rumors that Broner wanted parity with Pacquiao. That wouldn’t be doable because the fight likely wouldn’t have brought in a large number of PPV buys for Arum to give Broner the money he was asking for.

Broner’s trail was for the incident that took place earlier this year on January 21 at a bowling alley. Broner allegedly assaulted a man outside of the bowling alley.

Broner recently lost his WBA light welterweight title outside of the ring last April when he failed to make weight for his title defense against fringe contender Ashley Theophane. Broner still took the fight and stopped Theophane in the 9th round, but his title was declared vacant due to him missing the weight. Theophane is one of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s fighters in his Money Team stable.

When Broner does return to the ring, he’ll likely have a good chance of fighting WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia if he doesn’t ask for too much of a cut of the revenue.
Broner needs to capture a title and prove that he can hold onto it for a period of time, because he’s had bad luck in the last three years with defeats against Marcos Maidana and Shawn Porter. Broner also has a controversial 12 round decision win over Paulie Malignaggi in June 2013. Broner was a good fighter when he was campaigning as a super featherweight. Broner hasn’t had the same kind of success since he moved up to 140 and 147.
