Image: Canelo vs. Golovkin: Finally? or Never?By Leigh K. Seto: It’s turning into the second coming of Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao. But I’d like to address the very similar chants of “Coward” that was commonly used to describe Floyd not fighting Manny. I said it then and will say it again. Boxers aren’t cowards. I’m sure all of you personally know at least one fighter and that guy is willing to fight anyone win or lose. Now Saul “Canelo” Alvarez isn’t just one of those average fighters. He’s at the top of the food chain. I think he’d fight anyone. However, I don’t think his management will let him.

Now can he beat Triple G? Certainly. A human head can only withstand so much force and Canelo has made a career proving his power. Do I think he will? No. I think Canelo is the best Jr middleweight in the world and Gennady Golovkin is the best middleweight in the world. If everything is equal the bigger man wins But anyone that thinks Canelo has no chance I challenge them to take all of their money and bet on Triple G. Because I hold these cyber guarantees as idiotic jargen and fan boy cheerleaders.

I’ve also heard people talk about their weight being the same. Canelo “looked” short next to Amir, and next to Mayeweather. He has more bulky, rounded, body builder muscles, which actually isn’t good in boxing. It slows down hand speed and it causes lactic acid to build up at a faster rate in the arms, which causes fatigue. Where Triple G is built different than Alvarez. He is about 2-3 inches taller than him and he has a naturally larger frame, with much leaner muscles. Their weight being the same, doesn’t make them the same size. Golovkin could never shrink down to 155 lbs as much as Canelo. He’s far too lean. Canelo reminds me of Vinny Pazienza. Vinny was a great middleweight, but he moved up to fight Lt heavy and got destroyed. He was built just like Canelo and short like him. Vinny weighed as much as a light heavy, but his frame wasn’t that of a light heavy weight.

If I was Canelo’s manager I would say keep fighting at Jr middleweight its where hes at his best. In the next 4 years as his body matures he’ll most likely be be forced up, but he will have more experience and would have a better chance to fair better at Middle weight by then.

As for Golovkin, he needs to move on and hopefully start fighting people that are recognizable. Jacobs, Lara, Ward, Ramirez are a few that come to my mind. I don’t care at this point, just quit fighting tomato cans and making excuses why he shouldn’t fight them. Fighting ranked fighters by these bubble gum belts doesn’t prove anything to the well informed boxing viewer. It just proves that rankings are meaningless.
