Do you remember the days when you could sense it was a Fight?

rousey54By Gerardo Granados: I bet 10 – 1 that the reader has experienced that feeling at least a couple of times while young and also after having to take care of paying the bills. Either you were him or you had that friend that had the innate talent to start a fight, but he also was the only one you could trust to never leave you alone in a fight. Maybe you are the type of person who don’t like when someone pushed you and then stared at you.

Did it ever happen to you to have got out of your car but your friend stayed inside? Did it prevent you to fight those foes? Do you remember the feeling before any punch was even thrown?

When I see two boxers constantly touching gloves it takes much animosity out of the bout and somehow the expectation deludes itself. Don’t get me wrong I don’t like excessive sportsmanship but I do am in favor to enforce the rules to avoid dirty fighting.

Yesterday I saw the Ronda Rousey vs Holly Holm weigh in and again Ronda confronted her opponent. The art of intimidation cannot be taught, either you have it or not. The feeling I had was similar to the one I have when a fight is about to break up and I guess many readers can understand what I am saying.

When Carl Froch pulled George Groves at their hand shake it made me be sure we were about to see a genuine fight. The Erik Morales vs Marco Antonio Barrera rivalry was intense and you could sense that a fight was about to take place. When Ricardo Mayorga fought the feeling of a real fight was there, hey how can real fight fans forget Matador telling Oscar De la Hoya: “little [expletive] this isn’t a movie you´re not going to sing like a [expletive], this is boxing!”.

You must remember when Wilfredo Gomez heat up his fight against Salvador Sanchez, it was the perfect prelude for what came next. Same happen when Riddick Bowe fought against Larry Donald. The fight press conferences are part of the promotion and now a day MMA does have the lead over Pro Boxing, but is it so hard to regain it?

Sometimes I wonder what the hell has happened to the current boxers who now even apologize for acting like prize fighters.

If it wasn’t for Tyson Fury I would not have any interest in watching Wladimir Klitschko who tells press attendance “please don’t fall asleep”.

The next big fight is about to take place next Saturday 21 but I don’t sense any real intention on the boxers to hurt each other. There is no real animosity or bad blood to presume this one can keep me interested enough to invite friends over. For me there is no better build up for a fight than to see bad blood between the boxers.

Yes boxing purist know it all but the rest of us fight fans do have a different taste and many of us might be nostalgic from the time boxers acted like prize fighters. Do you remember the days?
