By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Sr. isn’t too impressed with #10 WBA welterweight contender Errol Spence (18-0, 15 KOs) for some reason. Floyd Sr. thinks that the 25-year-old Spence is going to get whipped sooner or later by someone. He doesn’t say who will do the job on him though, because it’s certainly not going to be Floyd Mayweather Jr. now that he’s retired from the sport.

“Errol Spence is going to get his butt whooped,” Floyd Sr. said to esnewsporting.com.

There aren’t too many takers out there who want to try and whip Spence like Floyd Sr. says. Spence wants to fight WBA welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman, as he feels he would murder him if he got him inside the ring.

Thurman says he might be interested in fighting Spence in two more years in 2017 if he first defeats three top 15 contenders.

Spence has been impressing the boxing world with his huge punching power and devastating knockout wins. Spence has knockout punching power in either hand, and he’s arguably the best body puncher in the welterweight division by far.

In Spence’s last fight, he destroyed #6 IBF Chris Van Heerden (23-2, 12 KOs) by an eighth round knockout on the undercard of the Tommy Karpency vs. Adonis Stevenson card on Premier Boxing Champions on Bounce TV from the Ricoh Coliseum, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Spence dropped Van Heerden twice in the 7th round before putting him away with a flurry of heavy shots to the head and body in the 8th round.

Before Spence turned pro, he was a member of the 2012 U.S Olympic team.

I don’t know if there are any fighters in the welterweight division that has the talent to do a number on Spence like Mayweather Sr. says. I would favor Spence over Amir Khan, Danny Garcia, Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter right now. The only guy that might give Spence problems is Manny Pacquiao if he were able to come back 100% from his shoulder injury he sustained last May.

I think Spence would destroy Tim Bradley and embarrass Brandon Rios worse than Pacquiao did. Thurman would be made to order for Spence because he telegraphs his punches, has a fragile chin, and doesn’t have an inside game at all to speak of. It’s too bad that Thurman is reluctant to get inside the ring with Spence because I’d like to see them fight each other right now before someone else exposes Thurman like Porter.

It wouldn’t be surprising if Thurman avoids Spence his entire career and chooses to stay in a different lane than him. That can certainly happen if Spence wins one of the other world titles at 147. Thurman then couldn’t be forced to fight him because Spence would never become his mandatory challenger.

Floyd Sr. is more impressed with a fighter Devin Haney. He’s 16-years-old and Floyd Sr., who happens to train him, thinks can become the next Mayweather Jr. Haney is still very slender, very raw, and it’s hard to predict whether he’ll be a good fighter one day or not. Right now, Haney looks all arms and legs. He’s still pretty much just a beanpole and it’s impossible to know whether he’ll be able to do anything at the pro level.
