By Dan Ambrose: Former world title challenger Chris Arreola (35-4, 31 KOs) weighed in at a hefty 262.4 pounds on Thursday for his scheduled 10 round bout against Curtis Harper (12-3, 8 KOs) on Spike TV on Friday at the Citizens Business Bank Arena, in Ontario, California, USA.

Arreola has put on a fair amount of weight since his last fight 10 months ago in May of last year when Arreola weighed in at 239 pounds for his fight against Bermane Stiverne.

It’s unclear how much weight the 34-year-old Arreola had to take off to get down to his present weight of 262. If Arreola had to trim down a fair amount of lard to get to 262, then it possibly means that he let himself bloat up to 280+ during his time off from the ring.

The good news is that it probably won’t matter that Arreola comes into Friday’s fight 20+ pounds over his previous weight. Hunter is not even close to being in the same class as Arreola, even a flabby Arreola.

This is a fight that Arreola likely would win even if he came into it weighing over 300 pounds. But it obviously isn’t going to look good for Arreola to be weighing so much, because the fight is going to be seen by a lot of boxing fans, and it’s not a good career move for Arreola to be so heavy even for mismatches like his fight against Hunter will be.

Arreola’s loss to Stiverne puts him in a really bad shape in terms of his career. Arrerola is going to need to start beating contenders if he wants to get a world title shot before he starts really getting up there in age.

Arreola isn’t going to be handed a world title shot at this point, because he’s already failed twice in attempts to capture a world title. Former WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko easily beat him.

Arreola’s loss to Stiverne was a really tough blow for Arreola’s career, because this was a guy that Arreola had a decent chance of beating if he had the ability to move around the ring. We saw how Deontay Wilder was able to beat Stiverne by staying on the move for 12 rounds. Arreola obviously is too heavy to be able to move for more than a round. Even moving for a round would be a real difficulty for Arreola.

In other fights on the card, former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter will be facing replacement opponent Erick Bone. Porter’s original opponent Roberto Garcia couldn’t make weight for the fight. Porter weighed in at 146.7 pounds.

Former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto weighed in a 146 for his fight against Josesito Lopez. For his part, Lopez weighed in at 146.3. Both of these fighters cannot afford to lose if they want to have a chance of rebuilding their sagging careers.

Other weighs on the card:

Josesito Lopez 146.3 vs. Andre Berto 146
Chris Arreola 262.4 vs. Curtis Harper 265.2
Miquel Vazquez 136.6 vs. Jerry Belmontes 136.1
Gerald Washington 248.5 vs. Jason Gavern 249.8
Hanzel Martinez 125.2 vs. German Meraz 125.4
Oscar Molina 123.7 vs. Juan Rojas 123.5
