Like always, Rios looked emaciated in weighing in at 146.75 lbs. This isn’t surprising because Rios has looked really heavy lately in training two weeks ago. Rios looked to be at least in the mid-160s, close to 170.

Rios probably had to lose at least 20 pounds to dehydrate to make the 147 pound limit for the fight. It’s hard to believe that at one time Rios used to be able to make 135. He’s really eaten his way out of that division, and he could soon eat his way out of the 147 pound division as well.

Alvarado looks a lot more healthy and reach to fight at 146.5 lbs than Rios. I don’t expect Alvarado to bulk up nearly as much as Rios after he rehydrates overnight. Alvarado is going to need to be able to stay light on his feet because he’ll need to do a lot of moving in order to avoid the heavier Rios. Alvarado doesn’t have a great chin, so he can’t stand in the pocket and trade with Rios all night long. Rios is a punch magnet, and he’ll gladly eat punches for 12 rounds in order to get the better of Alvarado in each round.

Saturday’s HBO Boxing After Dark doubleheader telecast begins at 9:45 p.m. (ET/PT).

The HBO telecast kicks off live from 1STBANK Center, located in the Denver suburb of Broomfield, CO., when light heavyweights Gilberto Ramirez and Maxim Vlasov square off for 10 rounds.

The main event of the evening, a 12-round welterweight showdown, features Mike Alvarado against Brandon Rios in the final chapter of their epic trilogy.
