Darnell Boone vs The 3 Champions (Ward, Stevenson, Kovalev)

stevenson221By Wilmar Patino: Darnell Boone is not a fighter anyone talks about. With good reason because he’s viewed as nothing but a tough journeyman. So I’ll grab your attention with this. Andre Ward, Adonis Stevenson, and Sergey Kovalev. If you do not know by now Darnell Boone gave these 3 champions a stiff test and did something to each and everyone of them that hasn’t been repeated since. What may that be? Well let’s have a quick look in this short article I’ve written about Darnell Boone

Darnell Boone vs Andre Ward – Andre Ward won this fight unanimously, but that’s not without having some adversity along the way. Darnell Boone hit Andre Ward with a crisp shot that had him hit the canvas. Yes that’s right this “journeyman” connected through the great defensive skills of Andre Ward. Something I haven’t seen happen since.

Darnell Boone vs Adonis Stevenson 1 – This was the first match up between Boone and Stevenson. The undefeated Stevenson being the favorite of course. So what happened? Darnell Boone gave Adonis Stevenson some problems and handed him his first loss by knocking him out! It is the only blemish on Stevenson’s career and he went on to avenge that loss. Still Darnell Boone was the better man on the night of their first fight.

Darnell Boone vs Sergey Kovalev 1 – I have to be honest here. I wasn’t able to locate footage of this bout anywhere! So what happened? Darnelle Boone fought Sergey Kovalev to a draw in 8 rounds. Giving him his only blemish on his record. Kovalev would go on to avenge this loss but not without some trouble along the way.

Side Note: Darnell Boone went on to face Erislandy Lara early in Lara’s career. Boone lost the match, but that’s besides the point. Darnell Boone was able to give these 3 current champs their own set of problems. Darnell Boone doesn’t have an amateur background. He went straight into the Pros and started learning on the job. Which is quite an amazing feat on its own. I can’t think of a journeyman to have ever fought such high caliber opponents. Not in recent memory at least. One can imagine the potential Darnell Boone would have had if he had started his career earlier and allowed himself to develop as a fighter. If you haven’t heard of him before. You have now. Look up the fights and see what I’m talking about. Hopefully someone here learned something new today.
