Mayweather vs Maidana 2 is going to be legendary

floyd888By Chris Williams: Superstar WBA/WBC Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) had some words to say about his huge September 13th rematch against challenger Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) on Showtime pay-per-view from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mayweather sees this fight as being a legendary one, filled with excitement and back and forth action from start to finish. Mayweather wants to entertain the fans, and that’s why he chose Maidana to fight again. With Maidana’s exciting fighting style, their September rematch is going to be to an exciting one for as long as it lasts.

Mayweather defeated Maidana by a 12 round majority decision last May while fighting his fight. The fight was one of Mayweather’s closer ones, although it really wasn’t all that close. Maidana appeared to win the first 3 rounds, but after that it was all Mayweather from rounds 4 through 12 with him having figured Maidana and adapting to his style.

Mayweather said “Boxing is legendary and someday I truly believe I’ll be mentioned amongst the best. September 13th, Mayweather vs Maidana 2 is going to be legendary, don’t miss it. The bar is set so high for Floyd Mayweather, that people seeing me lose 3 rounds, think I lost. I’m a crafty, slick, smart, counter puncher with a lot of experience. Maidana is a dirty brawler. Floyd Mayweather is a legend, people want to tune in and watch legends. It’s about entertainment; everyone wants to be entertained. It’s about giving people what they want to see.”

I totally agree with Mayweather. This is about entertainment, and it doesn’t get any better than Mayweather vs. Maidana. There’s something about Maidana that works well with Mayweather. The Argentinean fought better than Miguel Cotto and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in their fights with Mayweather, and he showed more toughness than both guys put together.

The Mayweather-Maidana 2 fight has the potential to be one of the best of Mayweather’s career, because both fighters are going to make changes to the way they fought the last time, and we’re going to see a much different fight. Mayweather will obviously box more this time, while Maidana will be looking to pick his shots better, give himself room to punch, and throw more body shots. Mayweather will be trying to keep the action in the center of the ring to keep from taking punishment on the ropes. Maidana will be looking to push Mayweather back to the ropes where he hopes to overwhelm him with punches like he tried before.

“Nothing about this fight is easy. Floyd has his work cut out for him come 9/13,” says Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe. “Maidana is a tremendous fighter and he’s come up the old fashioned way and he’s got better and better.”
