Haye sees himself 3-4 fights away from a World title shot

haye125By Gareth Steven Mills: Hampered by injury, it’s been almost 2 years since we have seen David Haye last enter a boxing ring and at one point it did looked like it was going to be for the very last time. With 2 fights with British rival Tyson Fury arranged and then cancelled, subsequently due to injuries to Haye.

The future looked like it could have been a tough one for the Hayemaker, wondering if there was ever a chance he could become the heavyweight champion again and being the man to stop the Wladimir Klitschko’s dominance of the heavyweight division.

Now after major reconstruction surgery to his shoulder he is back and is already talking up his chances of recapturing a heavyweight title again.

“The dream scenario for me is maybe Two or Three fights, then some type of eliminator and then to challenge for a version of the heavyweight title. Whether that would be with Wladimir Klitschko, or whoever hold the WBC title at the time,” Haye said.

“Then win that title and defend it, and then unify, going out there and winning all the belts together. That would be a perfect schedule for the next Two or Three years. I’m pretty confident I will be back to my best, I’m not that old, I’m 33, nearly 34,” he explains to 360.com.

The crop of heavyweight fighter has changed somewhat since The Hayemaker was the WBA heavyweight champion and the man who was once tasked with the job of dethroning Wladimir Klitschko could find it a little tougher this time out. With the emergence of younger fighters such as Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury, he may find that eliminator fights could be a little tougher than a 10 round fight with Monte Barrett.

If David can stay fit and doesn’t suffer from his inactivity, I feel he can make a difference to the heavyweight division. I don’t think his age is going to be an issue and confidence had never been a problem for him.

The best way to go for David would surly be to go down the road of the WBC championship, if he wishes to entice Wladimir Klitschko at all. The only problem with that is it looks like current WBC Champion Berman Stiverne may fight Deontay Wilder. This could be a stumbling block for Haye as Wilder posses a huge amount of power and seems quicker than a lot of the heavyweights Haye has fought in his younger days. The Hayemaker always seems to have the upper hand with his speed against the bigger slower heavyweights that he has faced, but might not have as much freedom against KO King Wilder.

Which ever direction Haye decides to go, it’s going to be a difficult one to even get to the stage at having a shot at Wladimir Klitschko let alone beating him.
