By Allen Hmiel: I do not appreciate fully Paulie Maglignaggi as a fighter or as a boxer . But after watching Paulie dismantle the disinterested Jab Judah in front of both ighters home town Brooklyn Fans, I now believe that Paulie can actually be a force at 147lbs. Paulie looked the best he has ever looked beating down and and making 36-year-old Zab Judah basically give up at home and go through the motions for 12 boring rounds of boxing last Saturday night in front of a rabid hometown Brooklyn fan base and national TV Showtime audience.
Paulie dressed and outfitted more like Hector Camacho flashy split trunks was looking like a true fighter with blinding speed and a jab as good as any fighter in boxing. Larry Holmes’ long stinging jab had nothing on the quick jab of Paulie Malignaggi last Saturday. Paulie’s jab confused and stunned the slower Judah and basically won the fight, as Zab had no answer for the speed and effectiveness of Paulie’s fast punches.
Now Paulie looks like a true contender at 147lbs and an actual threat for another title shot. WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley would now be a great opponent for Paulie to fight or even Shawn newly crowned IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter. Both fights are possible wins for the magic man who finally has discovered his true mojo and boxing awareness.
Paulie is now a much better fighter at 33 years than he was at 25 years old. Experience and boxing knowledge finally are put together for Paulie to actually be a tough opponent and true title contender. Paulie didn’t beat Adrien Broner in their fight last June, but it was definitely close. The Paulie that dismantled the slower Zab Judah Saturday evening probably beats Broner easily. Confidence and believing you are a winner has finally enabled Malignaggi to realize that he can be a force at 147lbs.
Paulie has suddenly gone from just an opponent with no punch and fast hands to a true fighter with a jab that gives Paulie a chance to win any fight he is in. Watch what opportunities come available to Paulie now that Al Haymon is involved and Showtime is behind him. Malignaggi is now better than ever and out to prove it. look out? Like a fine wine Paulie has aged beautifully and matured into a fine specimen.
