Khan could still be in the money if Mayweather fight falls through

khan5By Dean Bain: Many people think that if Amir Khan isn’t given the fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. next May then its been a waste of a year in his career chasing the money that he would have been given with fighting Mayweather.

Thing is even if Khan doesn’t get the Mayweather fight he has a fight in the UK that could make at least as much as he would have been given for the Mayweather fight. The man he could fight would be Kell Brook, there would be a massive interest in the UK for this fight and would certainly be pay-per-view. Kell is currently in a mandatory position for the IBF Welterweight belt but no fight has been announced, he has a big dislike for Khan and the feeling is more than mutual.

The fight could be scheduled for the end of May which would allow them to use a football stadium, probably Bolton Wanderers or Sheffield UTD stadium. This would increase revenue and could easily see Khan get the $3m that Robert Guerrero was given in his Mayweather bout

The problem for Khan is the risk in fighting Brook. With fighting Mayweather, Khan will be able to come again and stay within the top fighters in the division but if he loses against Brook then he would have to rebuild to even be given a fight with one of the top fighters

Whatever happens with the Mayweather fight Khan will be in the money and for me I have far more interest in him fighting Khan than fighting Mayweather.
