Dereck Chisora hoping to fight David Price

By Boxing News - 11/13/2013 - Comments

Promoter Frank Warren today won the purse bids for the big heavyweight clash between David Price and Dereck Chisora for the British title.

Finchley puncher Chisora is currently preparing for his European title defence against Matteo Modugno on Saturday 30th November at the Copper Box Arena.

Chisora has previously held the Lonsdale belt when he defeated Danny Williams in May 2010 to win the title and made a defence against Sam Sexton before losing it to Tyson Fury.

He’s is in the best form of his career with three back-to-back stoppages this year against Hector Alfredo Avila, top American Malik Scott and winning the European title with a sensational performance against Edmund Gerber.

Chisora said, “I’m concentrating on the undefeated Italian Modugno right now and defending my European title is my priority, but I’m excited that I’ll be facing Price,”

“I do miss holding the British title though, it’s a beautiful belt and I want to win it again on the way to the world title.”

A date and venue will be advised within the two week deadline set by the BBBofC.

Fonfara to Face Hard-Punching Samuel Miller on December 6 at Chicago’s UIC Pavilion

IBF #1 Light Heavyweight contender Andrzej Fonfara (25-2, 14 KOs) has agreed to a very dangerous test for his next ring appearance on Friday, December 6, at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago.

Fighting in one of the two main bouts of the Ulrich Knockout Promotions, Warriors Boxing and 8 Count Productions event, entitled “World Championship Boxing: Wlodarczyk vs. Fragomeni 3”, Fonfara will face La Habra, California, via Colombia KO artist Samuel Miller (26-7, 23 KOs).

34-year-old Miller is a former WBC United States (USNBC) Middleweight Champion who has faced a long list of top contenders. The dangerous puncher carries a 70% KO percentage against better-than-average competition.

“That’s how Andrzej is,” said Dominic Pesoli of 8 Count Productions. “He could have sat and waited for his title fight, but he wants to stay busy and he wants the kind of fights that will test him. A puncher like Samuel Miller is never more than one shot away from winning a fight and Andrzej knows that. This is a very dangerous fight for him while he has so much at stake that he wins.”

25-year-old Fonfara, Chicago’s Polish Prince, is currently the IBF #1, WBO #2 and WBC #7-ranked contender. A native of Warsaw, Poland, and a long-time Chicago fan favorite since turning professional in 2006, he is riding high on a 15-bout unbeaten streak and known for his fight-ending power. Fonfara most recently stopped former world champion Gabriel Campillo on August 16 to reach the mandatory contender position in the IBF.

Tickets for “World Championship Boxing: Wlodarczyk vs. Fragomeni 3” featuring the Warriors Boxing debut of Andrzej Fonfara are priced at VIP $201, VIP Ringside $151, Ringside $101, Box Mezzanine $76, Reserved Mezzanine $51, and General Admission $31 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster (Ticketmaster.com, 1-800-745-3000), the 8 Count Productions Offices: 312-226-5800 or the UIC Pavilion Box Office: 312-413-5740.

In the night’s 12-round main event, WBC Cruiserweight Champion Krzysztof “Diablo” Wlodarczyk (48-2-1, 34 KOs) of Warsaw, Poland, will attempt to make the sixth defense of his title and complete an epic trilogy of fights with Milan, Italy’s former WBC Cruiserweight Champion Giacobbe “Gabibbo” Fragomeni (31-3-2, 12 KOs).

Tomas Adamek ill, questionable for Glazkov fight

VERONA, NY – Saturday’s NBC Fight Night in the afternoon network TV boxing show will go on, as planned, whether or not former 2 time world champion Tomasz Adamek is able to participate in the main event.

“This is live broadcast Televsion,” said promoter Kathy Duva of Main Events. “We cannot simply postpone. When we learned earlier today that Tomasz had gone to the doctor, we immediately began to discuss contingency plans with our partners at NBC and our hosts at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, NY.”

Adamek has asked for a day to decide if he will feel up to fighting on Saturday. In the meantime, feelers have been sent out to numerous possible substitutes.

Duva added. “If the worst happens, we will implement Plan B. Either way, we expect to make an announcement early tomorrow afternoon. The show must go on.”

The 8-round battle of unbeatens between Karl Dynamite Dargan and Mike Brooks will take place, as scheduled. More details to follow.
