rodriguez432By Omar Torres: Edwin Rodriguez (23-0 15KO) vs Denis Grachev (13-1-1 7KO) ‘Super Four’ tournament final at 1:30pm U.S EDT. This Saturday will be the final of the super four million dollar tournament, and it will come to it’s conclusion when the undefeated Edwin ‘La Bomba’ Rodriguez (23-0 15 KO’s) takes on ‘Drago Son’ Denis Grachev. This bout is being contested at a catch weight of 171.5 pounds and will take place at Monte Carlo, Monaco.

The bout will be televised on channel beIN Sport, at 1:30 pm U.S. EDT. Unfortunately for a lot of us fight freaks, this channel is on special tv sports package deals on several cable providers in the U.S. If you get the chance to watch this fight it should be a very close action packed fight.

Edwin Rodriguez has an impressive amateur background and has a undefeated record in the pros. He has also faced respectable opponents, such as Will Rosinky, Don George, and he has recently beat two undefeated fighters in Jason Escalera and Ezequel Maderina.

Rodriguez beat Maderina in the first round of the tournament to earn his fight on the finals with Denis Grachev. Grachev ‘Drago’s son’ as he calls himself defeated the undefeated Hungarian Zsolt Erdei in the first round of the tournament. He also fought Lucian Bute and gave Bute a run for his money; some people say that Grachev won the fight or at least should of been s draw.

The skill sets of both fighters are very different. Grachev is a one punch guy with a lot of power and is very straight Foward, especially being a natural light heavyweight could give Edwin a problem. The bad thing about Grachev is that he has no head movement and his defense is below advantage.

This leads me to believe that the fast moving combinations of Rodriguez will pierce through Grachev and Rodriguez will get a lot of punches in. Edwin had good foot work and can come at his opponent in different angles. One major defect Edwind has is that he likes to throw wild long hooks and he also throws those hooks with his chin up, if Edwin isn’t careful he can get caught with one of Denis hard punches, Edwin is also used to fighting at 168 and has never fought at 171/172 pounds.

I predict that Edwin Rodriguez will stay undefeated and will win the super 4 tournament. Rodriguez is just the all around better fighter and boxer. Rodriguez ring intelligence and skills is more superior than Denis Grachev and these assets will help him win the bout on Saturday. On a side note Edwin is from the Dominican Republic and this writer is of Dominican descent.

Dominican Republic hasn’t produced a great boxers in recent years and Rodriguez has a good chance of being one of the best Dominican boxers in history. As a writer it’s important to be unbias but I am pulling for Edwin because he is the best chance right now to help resurrect boxing in the Dominican Republic.
