Booth sees Groves beating Froch

booth343By Scott Gilfoid: Adam Booth, the trainer for unbeaten 168 lb. contender George Groves (19-0, 15 KO’s), believes his fighter is going to handle IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) in their upcoming fight in November or December. Booth said he wouldn’t have allowed Groves to take the fight if he didn’t believe that he had what it takes to whip the 36-year-old Froch.

Both said to Sky Sports “I would never accept a fight for a fighter of mine if I didn’t truly believe, no sales spiel, truly believe he had what it took to win the fight. I feel so confident in George Groves right now that I can’t wait for his fight against Carl…when he [Groves] wins, the light is going to be that much brighter on him.”

I do absolutely see Groves spanking Froch in one-sided fashion in this fight, but it still won’t help Groves when he steps up to the plate and faces a talent like WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward or the Dirrell brothers.

Those three fighters are the real cream of the super middleweight division, and I see Groves as not being able to make the grade to beat those three talents. But I do think Groves is more than good enough to give Froch a major spanking in this fight; although if the fight is held in Nottingham, then I think Groves’ only chance to win would be to KO Froch.

I can’t see Groves getting a decision in Nottingham, even if he appears to win all 12 rounds. If I’m Groves, I’m putting my foot down and saying no on the spot if his promoter Eddie Hearn starts with the Nottingham business.

It’s not worth it for Groves to go there and risk finding himself on the losing end of a controversial decision, and the finding it all but impossible to get a rematch. Once the loss is there it stays there, and with time boxing fans forget about the circumstances behind the loss. Groves better be ready for when Hearns stays with the Nottingham business because if he acts passive and just caves in and agrees to stage the fight in Nottingham, he’ll likely be crying crocodile tears afterwards when and if he gets royally jobbed.
