Schaefer wants to stick Khan-Alexander in Dubai on December 7th

khan34324By Scott Gilfoid: If Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions has his way he’ll be putting IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander’s title defense against Amir Khan in Dubai on December 7th.

Schaefer says he’s got both Khan and Alexander saying yes to the fight, and all he needs now is to get the fight done as far as contracts and the venue.

Putting the fight in Dubai will ensure that Khan-Alexander will have a large audience, although I think the fight would do equally well in St. Louis, Missouri or the UK.

Speaking with Sky Sports Ringside, Schaefer said “I know Devon is on board, Amir is on board and we’re thinking December 7 for the fight. So now what we’re looking at is a possibility that the fight will be in Dubai if we can structure it in a way of that is enticing for Devon Alexander to go there.”

Good luck, Schaefer. Why in the world would Alexander want to fight Khan in Dubai? I mean, if that’s the only way Alexander can get that fight then so be it, but if he has a choice in the matter, I don’t see why Alexander would say yes to Dubai.

If Schaefer wants to sweeten the deal by giving Alexander a lot of cash to fight Khan there then that’s a good deal, but if the money is the same as he would get elsewhere, then that’s a bad deal for Alexander.

I can’t see there being too many Alexander fans in Dubai, and you don’t like to be put in that kind of a situation, especially when you’re the champion. The way Schaefer is trying to put this fight together, it’s like Khan is the champion and Alexander is the challenger. That’s not good.

If I’m Alexander’s manager, I’m saying no to Dubai AND the UK unless my fighter gets 80% of the deal. If Alexander was a knockout artist then it wouldn’t matter. You could put the fight in Dubai no problem, but given that Alexander doesn’t have a lot of power, the fight is likely going to go to the cards.

I’m sure the judges will be fair and all but if the fans are screaming each time Khan throws a punch, I can see the judges ending up influenced by that unconsciously and end up getting Khan the victory like in his last fight with Julio Diaz. Khan looked awful in that fight and deserved a nice loss, but the fight took place in London, UK and he was the one the fans were screaming over, not Diaz.
