Mayweather’s road to retirement

floyd#101by Sotoman: For true boxing fans, Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. represents the pure and flawless ability to teach and display the sweet science of boxing.  For the newer fans, Mayweather comes of as a fake, a fraud, and talker.

In spite of that, we must give Mayweather a lot of credit for keeping both sides happy/angry.  Fans who love to see boxing, enjoy watching Mayweather’s Ali-like movement in the ring.  They are reminded of why the greats like Ali, Leonard, Robinson the list can go on, were so important to boxing.

Younger fans must realize that although Money May is a boxer, he is in the game for money at this stage of his career.  His dedication to his children, roots, and boxing are evident in and out of the ring.  Yes he has had run-ins with the law but we all live our lives based on the decisions we make each day. Mayweather runs his mouth a lot, talks trash, many may say he’s all talk, but this is what he is out of the ring.  He is a promoter, a businessman, and boxer.  As we all know, business can be dirty sometimes and can create friends and enemies.

As Mayweather’s career begins to come to an end, with the now 5-fight deal signed with showtime, I believe Mayweather should serve the interest of both the fans that hate him and those that love him.  Give top tier fighters the opportunity: Canelo, Manny Pacquiao, Sergio, and a couple of more possibilities.  Yes, Canelo may come in a little heavier, but Mayweather should not be afraid.  Canelo’s punch output has been very low. In my opinion, Mayweather wins a close decision.  We all know that Manny Pacquiao was KO’ed last fight and it is a shame that certain fans make fun of it.  Any boxer who gets punched the way he did would probably succumb to the canvas.  In fact, this should give Mayweather every incentive to make the fight, given many believe many is not the same.  Sergio has not looked impressive recently and is a much bigger guy, but still will bring a lot of money to the table because his stock has risen.

Mayweather is definitely one of the best fighters of our generation.  I respect his skill, his ability to make money and sell fights, but he must take a chance to solidify his stance as a top 5 of all time.  These type of fights listed above can do that for him.  Fans, whether they hate him or love him, will continue to buy.  When its all set and done, Mayweather may either retire as a great! or a legend!, depending on the opponents he chooses next.

Let’s hope for the right moves Fight Fans!!!
