Bute-Pascal rescheduled for December 7th

bute3232By Scott Gilfoid: The postponed fight between former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (31-1, 24 KO’s) and former WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (27-2-1, 16 KO’s) has two dates that their promoters are looking at for the fight.

They’re looking at either December 7th or January 25th and they’ll be staging it at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. Most likely the fight will take place on the December 7th date.

The fight had to be postponed from the original date of May 25th after Bute injured his left hand while training. Injury made it necessary for Bute to have surgery on his hand to remove the bone chips that littered inside of his hand.

This should be a good fight once the two talents get into the ring. Bute had an off performance last May in getting blitzed by Carl Froch in a disappointing 5th round TKO in Nottingham, UK. However, Bute fixed what he did wrong in that fight and came back strong to defeat the hard punching Denis Gratchev by a 12 round unanimous decision last November.

What was impressive about that fight was that Bute totally out-boxed a fighter with better power than Froch and did a great job of getting out of the way of most of Grachev’s hard power shots.

Sure, Bute was hit by a number of Grachev’s power shots, but he did a much better job on defense than he did in the Froch fight. The Bute that beat Grachev would have beaten Froch had he fought like that against him. There’s no question about it.

Pascal has had injuries that have limited him to only one fight in the past two years. He did come back last December to beat Aleksy Kuziemski by an impressive 10 round unanimous decision. But even in that fight, Pascal suffered an injury to his left shoulder that forced him to fight with just his right hand from that point on for the remainder of the fight.
