By Scott Gilfoid: Former 2000 Olympic Gold medalist Audley Harrison (31-6, 23 KO’s) sees himself getting a top 10 ranking and a title shot against one of the Klitschko brothers if he can get past 6’7” Deontay Wilder (27-0, 27 KO’s) tomorrow night at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, UK.

That obviously isn’t going to happen even if Audley were to pull off an upset. The Klitschkos aren’t going to fight him because he’s been beaten too many times and there would be too much flak if they were to fight him just off of a win over Deontay.

It’s going to take a lot more than a win over Deontay for the 41-year-old Audley to get a title shot, I hate to say.

Audley said to I Film London “It’s a shame I have to go through Deontay to get to my goals. We’re going to war on Saturday…I’ve got Deontay Wilder, the hottest prospect in boxing…I don’t see many weaknesses [with Deontay]. Like I said, he has a right hand like a mule. He put me down [in sparring]…He’s rough, tough, explosive. He’s probably the most gifted athlete in the heavyweight division…beating Deontay puts me in the top 10 in the WBA, back in position to fight for a world title.”

Audley is dreaming big time. Would he get ranked off of a win over Deontay? Yes. Would he get a title shot? No. Audley would likely have to beat at least three additional top 15 contenders, possibly four before he’d be given a #1 ranking and that’s going to take an awful long time. Even if he were to receive a number #1 ranking, Wladimir or Vitali could still make him wait a year for a title shot.

At best, if Audley beats Wilder and three to four other top 15 contenders, we’re probably talking about 2 years before he gets a title shot. The odds of Audley even beating Deontay are extremely low, but then to turn around and have to beat a handful of other top contenders; it’s just not going to happen. Audley did well in winning the Prizefighter tournament recently, but that was against God awful 2nd and 3rd tier opposition. I mean, the best guy that Audley beat was Derric Rossy and I don’t see that guy as a 1st tier heavyweight or even close.
