Canelo vs. Trout tickets to sell as low as $10

alvarez43By Dan Ambrose: The starting point for tickets for the April 20th fight between WBA junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Austin Trout is a mere $10 for their fight at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The low cost is something that Canelo wanted, according to Steve Kim.

Canelo wants families in the area to be able to afford to get everyone in for the fight in the large 72,000 seat stadium. Of course, it also makes sense for Canelo because if they lower the price of the tickets then a lot more people will show up to watch him fight.

There were estimates that Canelo-Trout will sell perhaps 20,000 tickets a best, but if they lower the price, then they might be able to draw a few more thousand.

It’ll look a lot better potentially the more people they can fit in the Alamodome because if they can fill it to the halfway capacity, then it makes Canelo look like a major player, and he can then get a better deal if he ever faces Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Canelo is still hoping he’ll be able to face Mayweather on September 14th, but that’s probably not going to happen. There are too many things that will potentially get in the way of the fight being made.

First off, Mayweather really doesn’t need the Canelo fight in order to make $30 million from his six-fight contract with Showtime/CBS, so he’s not about to take a fight that could be a potentially tough fight. Canelo is a junior middleweight, and Mayweather is a welterweight.

It’s tougher for Mayweather because he’s facing a guy that carries around more weight than him, so he’s not going to jump at the chance because it’s not easy money. Also, there’s a really good chance that Canelo will lose to Trout on April 20th, and a loss right there will destroy any chances of a Mayweather-Canelo fight being made. Canelo should be worrying about just trying to get past Trout because this guy is going to be a nightmare for him.
