Hatton: I don’t want to see a fifth Pacquiao-Marquez fight

pac88By Chris Williams: Former two division world champion Ricky Hatton doesn’t see any point in Manny Pacquiao taking on Juan Manuel Marquez for a fifth time. Hatton thinks there are signs there that Pacquiao may not have it anymore and he doesn’t want to see him go out and take another chance against Marquez and possibly end up getting knocked cold again.

Speaking with esnewsreporting.com, a fleshy and happy looking Hatton said “If you ever see me knocking about, buy me a point.” When asked if he would like to see Marquez and Pacquiao fight again for a fifth time, Hatton said “Not at all. I think the writing is on the wall in a sense, not the last fight with Marquez but the previous fight, he had that. Then he fought Bradley, which I thought he won but he didn’t look great, and Marquez isn’t a puncher; he’s a technician.”

Hatton was rambling at this point and going off into a lot of different directions at once but he concluded with comparing himself with Pacquiao by revealing how hard it was for his family after he was knocked out, and he thinks it’s probably hard on Pacquiao’s family to see him getting knocked out cold by Marquez.

To sum it up, Hatton doesn’t think it’s worth the risk for Pacquiao to continue fighting at this point in his career. If he can’t even handle the big shots from Marquez, who Hatton doesn’t see as a big puncher, then it’s likely over for the Filipino – or it should be over.

Pacquiao will obviously keep fighting but he could end up getting knocked out in his future fights if he decides to fight Marquez again, and he obviously will. Even in Pacquiao’s next fight in April, there’s a chance we could see Pacquiao get knocked out again if he takes on someone halfway decent with some power.

There’s talk of Pacquiao fighting Vyacheslav Senchenko, and that’s not going to be an easy fight for him because Senchenko can bang a little bit. He knocked Hatton out last November, and I think he could do the same to Pacquiao if he connects something hard enough to the head.

I’d hate to see Pacquiao get poleaxed again when didn’t have to. He should listen to Arum and wait until September to fight again because at least he’ll get the guaranteed payday against Marquez if he does that and he’ll be giving his head time to recover after his vicious knockout loss at the hands of Marquez.
