The Excuses for Manny are here

Image: The Excuses for Manny are hereBy Robert Elmore: As I went threw a series of boxing sites, people are in shock that Manny Pacquiao was knocked out. They can’t believe it. So much so that many have gone into two phases on why the Filipino icon lost. Don’t get me wrong, he was winning the fight until he ran into a clean and accurate counter right hand from Juan Manuel Marquez. The first excuse is that Marquez is on steroids. How convenient can this be? Pacquiao loses by knockout and everybody is crying steroids?

Marquez was in the best shape of his life and he only tipped the scale at 143. This was not about steroids. Marquez build could have come from lifting weights and good eating. Manny could’ve had drug test before the fight, but opted not to. When Pacquiao was going through bigger men like they were water, some people questioned whether he was on steroids. While his fans simply said it was all skill. How come it’s not skill now and cheating has some how found its way into the picture?

The second excuses was it was a fixed fight or lucky punch. There was nothing lucky about that punch AT ALL. Marquez has landed that punch in each of their 3 previous fights. Only this time, he planted his back foot, slipped Pacquiao’s right hand and put all his strength into the punch. Manny got reckless and he paid the price for it. You fix a punch like that. If people can make that argument, then the 3 previous fights were fixed for Manny. I will let the kids argue that one. But this Marquez’s time and deserves this victory.

If I were Marquez, I wouldn’t fight Pacquiao anymore. If he does, he needs to dictate all the terms and get the higher pay. Manny is good fighter. I can’t take anything away from him, but he just got beat. Period. No excuses.
