Image: Pacquiao taken to hospital for CAT scan after brutal knockoutBy Jason Kim: As a safety precaution Manny Pacquiao was quickly taken to the hospital for him to get a CAT scan after his horrible 6th round knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez tonight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Hopefully the tests don’t reveal anything serious like a brain bleed. Pacquiao made a mistake of leaving himself open in the 6th and he got hit with a straight right hand from Marquez that knocked him senseless.

Pacquiao ended up on the canvas on his face and looked seriously hurt. It took Pacquiao awhile before he regained consciousness, and he was eventually taken back to his corner and looked over before he was allowed to get up and walk around. However, he didn’t look good as he was walking around talking to people.

Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach isn’t sure yet whether Pacquiao should continue his boxing career after this his second straight loss. Pacquiao told Yahoo Sports News “Possible retirement, possible rematch, I’m not sure which way we’re going to go right now…If I see signs of decline, I’ll tell him to retire.”

I don’t think it’s really up to Roach whether Pacquiao retires or not. That choice will be made by him and his wife Jinkie, but Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter, is already talking rematch against Marquez. As such, that’s going to be where Pacquiao is going next.
Retirement is something that Pacquiao should seriously think about because he didn’t look like the old Pacquiao tonight.

That right hand that dropped him flat on his back in the 3rd round was a shot that a younger Pacquiao would have been quick enough to get out of the way of, but not this version. Although Pacquiao is only 34, he’s been in a lot of wars and he’s put a lot of strain on his body by moving up in weight from the lighter weight classes.

I think retirement will become a reality for Pacquiao if he gets knocked out again by Marquez in a rematch. That would be a big hint hitting Pacquiao over the head.
If Pacquiao rushes himself back into the ring in four to six months, I think he’s going to get knocked out even quicker in the rematch with Marquez.

A knockout like the one he suffered tonight often leads fighters to getting hurt easier in future bouts. Pacquiao should consider taking some time off from boxing so he can recover.
