This is a fight where the two guys seem to be miles apart in terms of talent and size. Khan is 5’10”, and lost his last two fights, and his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions don’t appear to want to take any real risks with him losing another fight.

For this reason the 5’6” Molina has been pooled from the lightweight for Khan to get an easy win against, and of course to impress casual boxing fans who don’t really understand that Molina isn’t in the same division as Khan and hasn’t had the same amount of hype about his career.

Molina said to thesun.co.uk “Khan is going to come out and be defensive in the first part of the round but once I put on the pressure and start landing my punches, he is going to go back to the same mould. It will be the same old Amir Khan as we have seen in his last few fights. He will get wild and that’s only going to benefit me when he starts opening up. He is going to feel my power.”

Molina has really done his homework for this fight. He’s studied all of Khan’s losses to Breidis Prescott, Lamont Peterson, and Danny Garcia. Molina knows what Khan’s weaknesses are and he plans on going for a knockout in this fight.

Khan has been yapping about how he’s changed his fighting style now that he’s with new trainer Virgil Hunter, but Molina is naturally skeptical about it. He knows that fighters rarely are able to make major changes to their game when they’re as far into their careers as Khan is, and he sees Khan going back to what he’s always been.

I don’t think it’s possible for Khan to change his fighting style, and if he does I doubt he’ll find success with it. He’s gotten to where he is now with the combination of careful matchmaking and his aggressive style of fighting. I expect the careful matchmaking to continue, but I see him being able to change his style of fighting without it hurting him. What Khan is doing is the equivalent of a baseball player switching from right handed to a left handed batting stance and still counting on being able to hit homeruns.
