charr435By Allan Fox: #8 WBC heavyweight contender Manuel Charr (22-1, 12 KO’s) will be fighting next month on January 19th, 2013 against an opponent still to be determined at the Centro de Convenciones, Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico. This is one of the few fights in which the 28-year-old Charr has ventured out of his home country of Germany to fight.

Indeed, Charr has only fought once out of Germany when he took on and was stopped by WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko in the 4th round in September of this year in Moscow, Russia.

With Charr fighting in Mexico it would have to mean that he’s facing a Mexican opponent, and it would have to be a tune-up type bout because there’s talk of Charr fighting on March 2nd against Dereck Chisora in Germany. With that fight not far off from the January 19th date you would have to conclude that Charr is facing a soft opponent to keep him busy.

Charr defeated Konstantin Airich by a 1st round knockout win last Friday night in Cologne, Germany. Charr finished the fight quickly by opening up with both barrels and finishing Airich with a nice left to the body.
Charr doesn’t have much in the way of skills, but his power is good and he can be a handful if you don’t have the size to dominate him the way that Vitali did.

Charr isn’t someone that will go very far in the division because there are a lot of better heavyweights than him waiting around to get a title shot, but he makes it interesting because he’s got good enough power, size and aggression to caught problems for many of the heavyweights in the division.

It’s impossible to guess who Charr will be fighting in Mexico because there are a number of Mexican heavyweights that he could be facing in this fight. The only thing that you can predict is that it won’t be anyone too good because this is meant as a stay busy fight.
