khan4321 By William Mackay: Golden Boy Promotions will find out in 2013 whether they have a gem in Amir Khan or a lemon. They took signed Khan with their stable thinking that he’d be a can’t miss future star, but after some limited success in Khan picking up the IBF and WBA paper titles, Khan has been a failure with him getting beaten by Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia. Golden Boy is now looking to rebuild Khan’s career, such as it is, by putting him in winnable situations for him.

The first part of the Khan rebuilding project has been completed with Golden Boy having Khan blow out a lightweight with no power in Carlos Molina. Khan passed that test but now they’re looking to put Khan in with a slightly tougher opponent in April of 2013. Khan has said that Victor Ortiz and Lucas Matthysse are two of the names that is being considered for his next fight but it’s pretty obvious that Golden Boy won’t put their fragile-chinned fighter in with anyone as dangerous as those two because Khan is still too vulnerable to have him fighting someone with a good chance of beating him like those two.

It would be insane for that fight to be made. Matthysse is someone that can beat Khan no matter what fighting style Khan chooses to use. Khan says he wants to fight Danny Garcia in late 2013, as he wants to attempt to avenge his loss to him at that time.

We should be able to find out at that time if Khan will be dead weight for Golden Boy or if he’s able to move past this obstacle to go onto bigger and better things at 147. Khan will be moving up in weight after the Garcia fight, he says. The main reason Khan will be moving up in weight to welterweight is to try and get a fight with Floyd Mayweather as quickly as he can before Mayweather ie beaten by someone or retires.

There’s so much money in facing Mayweather that it’s a fight where there’s no downside in losing because Khan will make so much money. However, even under the best of circumstances a fight between Khan and Mayweather won’t be happening until 2014, if ever.
