By Scott Gilfoid: The more I see of #1 WBC light heavyweight contender Robin Krasniqi (39-2, 15 KO’s) the more impressed with him. I think Krasniqi, 25, is going to give WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly (25-0, 12 KO’s) huge headaches in their fight on March 16th in a still to be determined venue in the UK.
Krasniqi is a really tricky fighter because he doesn’t always throw a lot of punches, but man he is really fast of hand. The guy has got blazing hand speed, and an uppercut that is deadly. I honestly must say that Krasniqi’s uppercuts are one of the best I’ve ever seen a fighter throw. He throws it with textbook precision, and he’s just deadly with that punch.
If you look at Krasniqi’s recent fights against Max Heyman, Serdar Sahin and Hakim Zoulkha, he was really hurting these guys with his fast shots, big uppercuts and looping punches. He throws his shots so fast that his opponents often don’t see the shots coming until it’s too late. What makes Krasniqi especially dangerous is that he doesn’t throw many punches, so that when he does all of a sudden let loose with his shots, it’s like an explosion going off.
He throws big shots and he likes to open up with three punch combinations. It’s hard for his opponents to handle his sudden burst of speed and power. His single shots aren’t as powerful as some of the light heavyweights in the division, because he’s more of a super middleweight in size.
The guy is clearly fighting in the wrong division, but that’s what makes him even tougher to fight. He has the speed of a fast super middleweight fighting at light heavyweight. Speed is power, and that’s makes Krasniqi really tough to fight.
I don’t know that Krasniqi will beat Cleverly, but I do think he’s going to give him a lot more problems than Cleverly’s last two opponents Shawn Hawk and Tommy Karpency. Those fighters weren’t good and it was clear going into those fights that Cleverly was going to win with ease.
But you can’t say that with the Krasniqi fight. He’s got some physical skills and boxing ability that will make him a tough out for Cleverly. The hand speed, the uppercuts and the way Krasniqi explodes with his punches, it’s going to make it tough for Cleverly, because he’s a pretty basic fighter without much talent.
