Fury: I’ll be WBC heavyweight champ soon

fury5By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) thinks he’s going to be the next WBC heavyweight champion, and while he’s done a great job of beating the less than impression opposition that his promoter has fed him for the past four years, it doesn’t look like Fury will be picking up the WBC title after the current champion Vitali Klitschko retires.

Fury said of himself on his twitter “Tyson, soon to be WBC champ!”

I think Tyson is a great fighter when it comes to beat 2nd tier opposition, but he’s really lacking in the power department. His last fight against Kevin Johnson earlier this month showed Fury’s flaws loud and clear. Without the power to do anything with the out of shape looking Johnson, Fury ended up slapping his way to an unimpressive 12 round decision.

The funny part about it was that even his own boxing fans were booing his lack of power and they looked unhappy with having spent their money to come and see him fight. His promoter did a good job of spotting that Johnson of finding the out shape Johnson, who really hadn’t looked good in his recent appearance in the Prizefighter tourney, and then putting him in the ring with Fury.

If Fury is going to win the World Boxing Council title, he’s going to have to beat Vitali or someone like Chris Arreola. I see Fury’s chances of beating either of them as pretty much zero because he won’t be able to jab his way to a decision against either, and he doesn’t have the power to stand and trade with Vitali or Arreola.

You could see how bad Fury looked when he getting hit hard by Johnson on the few occasions that he let his hands go in the fight. Fury took shots on the side of the head, and he looked bad.

Fury moves around a lot more than he used to do, but it’s worthless movement because he’s just moving and wasting energy without any real purpose. If you look at his fights with Vinny Maddalone and Johnson, Fury moved around endlessly and those guys were standing stationary and not really coming after him.

They watching a guy like he had no sense of how to fight, and it was strange to watch. Fury is going to wear himself in the future if he keeps wasting energy like this, and I can see him losing to even subpar heavyweights because of the energy that he wastes.
