Marquez defeated Manny Pacquiao last Saturday night, and avenged his two previous losses he had suffered in questionable defeats. Marquez got his sweet revenge by beating Pacquiao in a way where the judges couldn’t possibly alter the outcome with yet another questionable decision.

Chavez Sr. told the record.com.mx “You must seize the moment, make one or two more fights and retire.”

That makes a lot of sense because Marquez at least should continue fighting long enough to face Pacquiao in a fifth fight to prove that his win over him last Saturday wasn’t just a lucky punch like some of Pacquiao’s boxing fans have been saying since the fight ended. There seems to be a great many fans that aren’t giving Marquez too much credit for the victory, either saying it was a lucky punch or questioning how he built up his impressive physique, which looked more like a weight lifter than a boxer.

There’s probably no reason for Marquez to fight more than one more time because the next fight against Pacquiao will prove who the better fighter is, and there really won’t be any point in a 6th fight. The only other fight out there for Marquez in terms of big money after fighting Pacquiao again would be Floyd Mayweather Jr., but that’s not really a good fight because Marquez lost so badly to him in 2009.

Marquez doesn’t have anyone at welterweight that would bring in the kind of money that he’s made against Pacquiao, and it won’t be worth it for him to drop back down to smaller paydays to fight lesser names. He’ll still make good money but it might be better to hang up the gloves at that point. If Amir Khan hadn’t been beaten in his last two fights, he would be an ideal opponent for Marquez next year, but that’s not an interesting fight now with Khan losing over and over.
