Trout, 27, hasn’t won the big money like the 32-year-old Cotto, and this is going to be his chance to make the big cash by beating Cotto and then moving onto the big money fights, if not a rematch between them.

Depending on how badly Cotto losses this fight, he may not have any other choice but to try and get a second fight with Tout, because this isn’t like Cotto’s last fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. where Cotto didn’t really lose a whole lot in getting beaten by the highly popular Mayweather. Trout is a lot less known to the casual boxing fan, and a defeat by Cotto against him will be a critical blow for Cotto’s career.

Trout said “I’m going to be a monster on December 1st.”

This is a very hard fight for Cotto at this point in his career because the southpaw Trout has got the boxing skills to expose all of Cotto’s many weaknesses and out-box him in this fight. Cotto really is in a position where he absolutely needs a knockout against Trout to ensure that he gets the win because his chances of winning a decision against Trout aren’t good. Trout is the much faster, younger and better skilled fighter compared to Cotto.

Cotto fought well in his last fight against Mayweather for 8 rounds, but then tired out and gave away the fight. The thing is this was with Mayweather voluntarily fighting Cotto’s type of fight instead of sticking with the smart approach to the fight by moving constantly.

Trout won’t play nice with Cotto by agreeing to slug with him because he wants to win the fight, and he’s not popular enough to take any chances by letting Cotto stay close and having the fight go to the scorecards. This is a home fight for Cotto and it’s not going to be easy for Trout to win a decision at Madison Square Garden.
