Roach says that Marquez threw less punches in his last fight against Pacquiao last November, and he feels it was because of the extra muscle that Marquez had. Roach doesn’t say why his own fighter Pacquiao also threw less punches, but that’s the point. Roach’s theme is that Marquez’s extra muscle is making him slow.

Roach said at the recent Pacquiao teleconference “I don’t think muscle-men have a better chin. If anything, I think if you put a lot of muscle he will be a little slower than he used to be and we are going to take advantage of that.”

Marquez put on extra muscle for his last fight against Pacquiao but it seemed to really help him rather than him like Roach was saying. Marquez looked pretty much as fast as he normally is, but the difference here was that he was so much more powerful. You could see how Pacquiao didn’t like getting hit by Marquez and the shots appeared to take their toll on the Filipino fighter as the bout wore on.

For this fight on December 8th, Marquez looks like he’s going to be a little bit bigger and definitely stronger. While some fighters don’t punch with better power when they put on extra muscle, I don’t think that’s the case with Marquez. The more muscle Marquez puts on, he looks stronger. That’s bad news for Roach and Pacquiao because it means that Marquez will be the more powerful puncher int his fight.
