Lucian Bute without the bang

Image: Lucian Bute without the bangBy Jack Tarpey: After once again watching Bute’s disappointing comeback fight, I can’t help but feel that Froch has given his fellow boxing colleagues the perfect blue print to defeat and humiliate Bute.

Too many times Grachev was able to force Bute back on to the ropes and unload, everytime Bute was forced back on to the ropes I couldn’t help think that if Gravhev just put a few more rallies together he could have took Bute out, especially in the 5th round where credit to Bute he even admits that in that round he was close to another disaster.

Bute looked uncomfortable in the fight to say the least and in parts of the fight it appeared he was inviting Grachev to take the initiative to really come at him and capture the KO. It appeared Bute was constantly looking to counter Grachev but with little effect, Bute in parts of the fight seemed nervous and amateurish throwing and missing wide hooks like he was at bat practice.

I have to admit I was extremely disappointed in his comeback after the Froch massacre, as I am huge fan of Bute. Prior to the Froch fight Bute seemed to fight with the fluidity of a stream, every punch especially his uppercuts was a great advert to why we call this the beautiful science, his rhythm in my opinion is top class and very easy on the eye to watch, a similar punching style which has been adopted by the excellent Guillermo Rigondeaux.

I admit I had a wager on Bute to outclass Froch and I was obviously humbled by Froch’s domination over the Romanian pugilist. I don’t think anyone predicted the mauling which was handed out by the now revered British warrior in Carl “the cobra” Froch. It was simply sensational and at times even for the most hardened boxing fans hard to watch as it didn’t even look competitive and more like a gazelle trying to stand up to a lion.

I really hope Bute can get back to his best and stop letting himself get pushed back on to the ropes he just doesn’t react quick enough and invites unnecessary blows which he doesn’t have to take and appears he can’t take.
There was some promise coming from Bute and that was round 12 where he looked like a man possessed, it was as if his cornermen finally let the leash of him, he just came into the round forgetting the past 11 and showed absolutely no fear nailing his feet to the ground whilst throwing every punch with as much violence that you would imagine Ares the God of war to be proud of.

Surely if Bute could have begun that assault earlier in the fight like perhaps round 10 he surely could have picked up the KO win he so much craved.
Look forward to your thoughts fellow boxing heads.
