Image: Bute needs to get a couple of more tune-ups under his belt before Froch rematchBy Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (31-1, 24 KO’s) shouldn’t rush into a rematch with Carl Froch just yet. Bute showed in his win over Denis Grachev last Saturday night that Bute still needs at least two, possibly three more tune-up bouts before he’ll be ready to fight Froch again.

The reason I feel this way is because of some of the bad habits that Bute showed in his win over Grachev, as well as in his loss to Froch. In both fights, Bute frequently retreated to the ropes to try and fight from that position.

Image: Lucian Bute without the bangBy Jack Tarpey: After once again watching Bute’s disappointing comeback fight, I can’t help but feel that Froch has given his fellow boxing colleagues the perfect blue print to defeat and humiliate Bute.

Too many times Grachev was able to force Bute back on to the ropes and unload, everytime Bute was forced back on to the ropes I couldn’t help think that if Gravhev just put a few more rallies together he could have took Bute out, especially in the 5th round where credit to Bute he even admits that in that round he was close to another disaster.

Image: Grachev thinks he was robbed in loss to ButeBy Scott Gilfoid: Russian Denis Grachev (12-1-1, 8 KO’s) thinks he was jobbed in his loss to Lucian Bute (31-1, 24 KO’s) last Saturday night in their fight in Montreal, Canada. The fight looked hardly like a case where Grachev was robbed in any way because he was simply not doing what he had to do in order to beat the talented Bute.

The judges gave Grachev a fair deal by having him losing by the close scores of 115-113, 118-110 and 116-112. What is Grachev doing complaining when he was only beaten by those scores? I could understand his complaining if they gave Bute every round, but those were pretty close scores.

Image: Bute: I hope Froch beats Mack so I can gain my revengeBy Scott Gilfoid: Lucian Bute (31-1, 24 KO’s) is very pleased with his efforts last night in getting back on the winning track in defeating Denis Grachev (12-1-1, 8 KO’s) in Montreal, Canada in front of a packed Bell Centre. It was a gutsy performance from the 32-year-old Bute, who showed excellent counter punching ability, pinpoint accuracy with his shots and superb hand speed in beating the powerful Russian.

After the fight, Bute said to gsp.ro “Grachev was a tough opponent. He put a lot of pressure on me. Overall, I am happy with the way I fought after my failure against [Carl] Froch. I feel it was the true Bute. I want revenge. I hope Froch wins his next match [against Yusaf Mack]. Then we can fight.”

Froch said to Sky Sports News “I believe going on the road to Montreal will inspire me. I’ve been on the road to box many times – I’ve been to Denmark, Finland, Connecticut and Atlantic City twice. It’s not a really daunting prospect to go over to Montreal and face Bute.”

Image: Froch not impressed with Bute's win over GrachevBy Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) is saying he wasn’t impressed with the performance from ex-IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (31-1, 24 KO’s) in defeating previously unbeaten NABF light heavyweight champion Denis Grachev (12-1-1, 8 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision last night at the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Canada. Froch will be next for Bute in early next year in Montreal, so it’s kind of strange to see Froch talking his opponent down rather than building him up the way he’s been doing against Yusaf Mack for the past three weeks to try attract interest to his November 17th fight against the American in Nottingham, England.

Froch said to Sky Sports News “Let’s be honest, it wasn’t the most impressive performance from Lucian Bute that I’ve ever seen. Bute didn’t really impress, but it was a comeback fight from a devastating defeat against myself, so what did people expect? He needed to find his feet again, find his confidence. I’m sure he’s done that. I think mentally he needed to get that fight in the bag.”

The judges scored it 115-113, 118-110 and 116-112. You have to wonder which fight the judges who scored it 118-110 for Bute was watching. The fight was much closer than that.

Bute showed tonight against Russian Denis Grachev (12-1-1, 8 KO’s) that he’s on his way to becoming a world champion once again. Bute took the fight by a 12 round unanimous decision at the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Canada.

The scores were a little haywire, though, with Bute getting the decision by the scores 115-113, 118-110 and 116-112. The 118-110 score was more reflective of the actual fight that took place tonight, as Bute landed the much cleaner shots in every round of the fight.

The final judges’ scores were 115-113, 118-110 and 116-112.

Believe me, the fight wasn’t as close as two of the scorecards would have you suggest. Bute played it safe in the first few rounds after a cut over his left eye and the bridge of his nose in the opening round. But by the 12th, Bute was throwing punches and tagging the Russian Grachev at will with beautiful left uppercuts and right hands and wowing the crowd.

By Jim Dower: With a great struggle Lucian Bute (31-1, 24 KO’s) was able to defeat Denis Grachev (12-1-1, 8 KO’s) in their 170 pound catchweight fight by a 12 round unanimous decision at the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It might have been the catchweight that got the Bute the win tonight, as Grachev didn’t look as powerful as he normally is from having to drain down to 170 to make the fight.
